    How some of the early settlers survived the winters, Some didn't.
    One can grind up the acorns for flour too boot

    Agreed, concerning the importance of acquiring the knowledge and skills to effectively process acorns. The good thing about harvesting acorns as an austere environment survival food, is the lack of recognition by the uninformed of the value of acorns as a food resource, as well as not knowing how to exploit the resource effectively.

    Acorns are a seasonal crop...converting acorns to flour, is a good way of making use of the resource beyond the acorn gleaning season. :)
