2 Chinese nationals charged with smuggling 'potential agroterrorism' fungus into US: DOJ

Two Chinese nationals have been charged with allegedly smuggling into the U.S. a fungus called "Fusarium graminearum, which scientific literature classifies as a potential agroterrorism weapon," the Justice Department said Tuesday.

Yunqing Jian, 33, and Zunyong Liu, 34, citizens of the People’s Republic of [China](Taiwan News & Videos - ABC News), were allegedly receiving Chinese government funding for their research, some of it at the University of Michigan, officials said.

"The complaint also alleges that Jian’s electronics contain information describing her membership in and loyalty to the Chinese Communist Party," a DOJ press release said.

I’d be surprised if anyone from China on a work or student visa didn’t have a CCP handler.

"The FBI says it causes “head blight,” a disease of wheat, barley, maize, and rice, and is responsible for billions of dollars in economic losses worldwide each year."

WHOA! Talk about a way to cripple the USA from within. Wow! I'm stunned. Can you imagine the effects on our agriculture which is one of the things of the things that makes us so strong. However, I shouldn't be surprised as the Chinese can operate illegal bio-labs right under our noses...in California, of course.
EDIT: We should be very afraid of China and need to get our act together...because they certainly have. More and more, I think we'll be at war with them in the very near future. I am also convinced the Chinese fund a lot of our political strife. How? No idea but I would bet even old Biden was getting donations from them in a round-about manner.

Wouldn't be very smart of China to wipe-out our grain crops, because that just means higher food prices for us, hunger for them and starvation for the rest of the world! No soybeans for China! Always remember that we can out bid everyone else for what food is available and have the military might to take it at gun point!

China has their big national banks with YUGE valts overflowing with cash, jewels, and gold, and each vault has an american politician or big fish bureaucrats name on it, when those idiots visit China during their junkets they are taken into those vaults and shown the contents, and given the promise that if they cooperate, the contents are theirs no questions asked! Pedo Joe collected a several times, likely millions in gold, ( Far and above his net worth in cash) just like all the others will get when they give China all it asks of them! THAT is how China, and all the other countries along with the Oligarchs, Big Banks, and those old world families that run the whole world from behind closed doors! China knows they cannot rule the world buy force, they can never hope to compete in a war, but they CAN buy our politicians and other politicals far cheaper then a war would cost, so that's how they play us! Combined with their well known theft, and their infiltration into all the countries they want to take from, to China, the whole world belongs to them, and we are just allowed to live in it for now, as slaves to them! We are a means to an end to China, as long as we continue to be of use to them, they continue to allow us to live!

Yes I've assumed this since the 1990s when my great uncle would host exchange students. The Chinese ones seemed very interested in US gun culture and there were fascinated and horrified that a 15 year old could have a mini14, a bunch of ammo and no one cared. They were horrified on a level that didn't make any sense, I was thinking go back home and you got nothing to worry about..... Their curiosity seemed more than genuine, came off as unnatural, forced even as I had met several other foreign exchange students prior and since.
Their particular interest was in civilian semiautomatic rifles, so plan accordingly I guess.
Commies don't like it when the other side is armed, especially with those.
Oh of they could see me now, fcking commie nightmare fuel.

  9. I remember during the 2020 presidential debates when they asked Biden how he would deal with China. Harris blurted out he would do what ever they told him to, because they had given his family billions of dollars.
    I don't think he remembers!

WB, I thought the same at first but we're thinking too short-term, not on an international level and not 'death by a thousand cuts'.
First, chaos is their intent by this action and another hundred just like it. Obviously, it is not a killing blow and is more a method to tie up our resources, cause internal strife and affect our international relations.

Second, the USA and Brazil could feed the world if called upon, in fact, in many ways we do already. However, in the last decade (actually more like two decades) China has made huge purchases of farmland, not only in America but everywhere in the world and they still do. I remember hearing of a huge purchase of Ukrainian farmland right before the war. Food, like any resource, can be used as a weapon of war or a negotiating tool. Russian natural gas to the EU is a perfect example. Destroying USA crops causes the food export capability of the USA to drop and the prices of remaining crops to rise...in steps China. All those hungry countries which receive food exports from the USA suddenly are offered better deals with China, with strings attached of course, same as their 'Belt and Road' initiative.

Third, so the outcome of such event would be destabilizing not only to the USA but to the world. It would cause problems at home for the farmers, hurt their output for at least a couple of years, drive the cost of bread higher domestically, affect diplomatic ties internationally, and in general cause chaos - just think if we indeed had to resort to using force to obtain food stuffs. It would affect our military capability greatly. Now, tie this in with all the other small environmental, transport, financial, utilities, etc., attacks. Each one must be answered. Each one ties up resources to do so. A thousand cuts. The military is not the only means of warfare, certainly not for the next war. China plays the long game, the very long game, and their pieces are being placed, a lot of them, knowing they will lose many prior to being needed.

The question we really need to ask is how close China is to being able to feed themselves given their purchases instead of being forced to rely on food imports. The second question is how we can stop China's purchase of agriculture land within our own country. We need to stop reacting and start acting, get the initiative and keep it, otherwise the outcome is clear.

No food exports from America, but there would hopefully be food grown in other parts of the world that we could buy on the open market. Make them an offer that they can't refuse!
I know that we have talked about it before, but has anyone read "No Blade of Grass"? The Chung-Li virus attacked the rice crop in China, causing famine and starvation. The world sends food aid, but the virus spreads...and it attacks ALL grasses, like wheat, corn rye, barley, oats, etc. Billions die and civilization crashes as the few survivors struggle to switch from grains to a diet almost entirely of fish, fruit, nuts, berries, veggies and potatoes. Almost ALL land animals that depend upon grasses die, so it will be decades or centuries before red meat is readily available again. Good read, and they made a movie too!

hmmm... speaks of famine in the Book... one of the 4 IIRC...

also from the Book... he is in our past present and future at the same time???

so the famine could actually be OUR doing seen in our future by him???

cause a modified fungus like this would most likely spread world wide in a fairly short time... and produce a famine world wide???

consider... the COVID issue and china has having to deal with a new strain right now???

    brought it on themselves maybe???

    also...

"No Blade of Grass" book and movie...

The plot sounds really interesting! Why the low rating of 4-stars, poor writing? It's got 10,597 reviews though, so it is well known. I'll have to see if the library has it as they don't have an eBook (kindle) version. I don't buy paper books anymore - well - I do but only reference books, service manuals, etc. things like that. Anyway, I got it on my radar now...THANKS!

There was time in the US I'm old enough to remember there were truck farms that produced vegetables. We ate what was in season and rarely did you see anything that was not grown in the US. Now it's big Agra business farms who use massive amounts of fertilizer and pesticides and herbicides. Why simply the population has increased and it's the only way to feed all these people. Small truck farms that grew fresh produce are gone gobbled up by housing developments. Spoiled Americans want everything whether it is in season or not so we import food grown god knows where -god knows how. The FDA inspects less than 1% of what is imported. We used to be able to feed ourselves no longer. A nation that can't feed it self is wide open to Agra terrorism
