Another adventure book - in this case a Doctor sets out to prove (by doing) that drinking seawater to supplement freshwater was not olny possible, but could be lifesaving.

This is a famous account of his sail-assisted, mid-Fifties Atlantic crossings, first in a dug-out canoe and then in a production Klepper folding kayak. As a doctor, Lindemann used his expedition to examine the physiology and psychology of enduring long weeks at sea alone.

    EDIT to add
He discuses medical issues of starvation, talks of his diet - where, for example, he uses onions in place of limes to stop scurvy. One his second voyage, canned milk and beer make up a good part of his diet...

I found reading the thought process behind both journeys to be enlightening. The books list in quite some detail, the supplies carried and how the man fared on fish and rainwater. Well worth the time to read.

The book can be found fro no cost on line - but use care in your source. The Gutenberg Project is the safest of the lot The Project Gutenberg eBook of Sailing Alone Around The World, by Captain Joshua Slocum.
