So I'm getting back to an old old hobby of mine that I enjoyed forging. I bought a gas forge and a cheap anvil hammer and tongs.
The anvil is only 55 lbs but I have looking around at building a stand for it.

The anvil is 11 inches long and under 6 inches wide at the base. I'm looking at using 4x4 or 4x6 yellow pine nothing fancy not going to be a forever that's the 4 foot black walnut tree truck job. Tree was diseased and close to 80 to 100 years old.

Looking for any thoughts and ideas? I took ideas off of other people.

I'm not 100 set on how I'm going to get it all together I was thinking 10 12" bolts or steel band wrapped a mix any idea.

This was my Christmas gift for myself was to get back into forging and making knives maybe I can watch Forged in fire without getting depressed. The smell of the hot metal when the hammer hit it! Like gun powder and Hopps #9.

I've been getting around to making me a stand for an anvil ,, I've got some treated 8x8s laying around from the last few beach houses I built ,, I'm going to figure my height ,,and cut them to fit. I figured I'd cut 4 of them ,, then I'm going to take some 14 inch Timberlock screws and screw them all together. Clamp them together ,, then run in the timberlocks and you'll keep a tight fit,, solid base for the anvil. I figure solid timbers will absorb any impact I could give it .
You could do as Mr Fisk suggested as well.
Or ,, just cut yourself a section of an oak tree the diameter and height you need it . Scrape the bark off ,, and mount your anvil.
    Other
folks may have better options ,, but after you've got your height and everything the way you want it ,, start painting it with a 50/50 mix of diesel fuel and burnt motor oil,, it'll help repel any bugs wanting find an easy meal .
    Just my opinion .

Also, if the anvil has a loud ring to it then it is not setting flat enough. A 1/2 of a sand bed on it will take the ringing out of it.

I got some white oak logs a couple of years ago. Kept one log about 36" for my son's anvil. Used a hand planer to get the ends flat and parallel ish so the log sits vertical. Lag bolted the anvil to it and then wrapped some chains around the base of the anvil.
Easy to move around with the round log base.
