In my neck of the woods, I love machetes. Have all manner of sizes and styles. Today, I used the Bear custom bamboo handled short machete to open a coconut that was transitioning from green to mature. I would never use a blade to open a mature brown coconut. It would be like chopping armor plating. But still green is ok. Afterward, as I was cleaning and touching up the edge, I thought to take a couple of pictures. 2C2BD13E-C285-403F-9B85-1C9B94AAE640 by Hanzo posted Jan 11, 2020 at 15:01 400319DC-3A29-4FBB-B4A1-170A359D570D by Hanzo posted Jan 11, 2020 at 15:01 It sits loosely in the sheath, so it has an improvised ranger band retention strap. Blade length is about 24cm, handle is 11mm and the thickness is 3mm. So small and light. It would be perfect if the handle was 2-3cm longer. My hand totally fills the handle as is. The patina is natural from use and makes the newly touched up edge stand out.
Nice machete Hanzo .. If you'd like it a little longer , 3 cm is just about 1 1/4 inches ,, it doesn't look like it would be to hard to fabricate a new handle for it and add what you feel would be comfortable for your hand . Might turn out to be a pretty good little project .
Nice @Brokor! My longer one has one side tungsten. Is that what you have? The longer one is longer than yours and the shorter one is shorter. Shorter one does not have tungsten.
You would know if it was a tungsten one. Yours probably doesn’t have, like my short one. Bear made a few longer ones with the tungsten edge coating. I think he said it required a special machine. You sharpen only the non-coated side and it gets quite sharp.
