First, for all my fellow American readers, a very happy Thanksgiving greetings to you. I hope you have a very good holiday, with loved ones, and copious amounts of food, as well as taking a moment to reflect on the positive things in your life at the moment. Second, I apologize for missing last week’s posts. We’ve been in the process of moving from the RV into a cabin (house is still not done, of course…), that reader JRoberts was gracious enough to come help us get wired to code, rather than my normal hacked together process. The woodstove is in, and the walls are insulated, although we have to wait on funds for the sheetrock and interior walls to get finished. It’s dramatically warmer than the RV, which had the furnace failing, as well as the 120V to 12V converter. We also managed to get the cook stove installed. This is the first time in nearly a decade that we’ve had a full size cook stove and oven, so my wife is super excited about not cooking on a RV sized range and oven. So, we’re grateful for that, to say the least! —————————————————- So would like to get your thought on this. As ive been considering it and mulling it over for about a week now. How much quality is enough when it comes to things like optics and lights? Where do we draw the line? What if we are factoring in multiples? For instance, if i sold my eotech/ magnifier combo alone i could easily afford a PA (Primary arms or similar tier) optic setup for my rifle along with a PA optic for the missus rifle. Its basically setting idle with irons for the time being. However is the trade off of multiples of decent quality better than one of very high quality? Facts being facts, the majority of realistic use for me and mine is homestead/property defense. Of that the vast majority is defense against 4 legged predators, followed by 2 legged, and then lastly defense against government encroachment. Wouldn’t it be great if we could all have Uncle Sugar provide us the latest, cutting edge optics (and pay for our training ammunition while they’re at it!)? I get it, for the hobbyist, saving money and buying one or two high end optics or laser designators, etc, is doable, because it’s what they’re interested in. I’d rather spend that money on horses and tack, but that’s me. I have no doubts that my SwampFox, or my Strike Eagle optics, are adequate for anything I need them to do. Like you, my primary concern is dealing with four-legged predators, and two-legged varmints are only a secondary concern. That having been said, I’m not sure, even if I thought a crew of up-armored powerlifters in Nomex and Kevlar were coming to my door, that I’d change that priority. I’d just load up the horses and leave… So, since you asked me? I’d rather have everyone in my family, of rifle bearing age, equipped with a decent optic on a decent, functioning rifle, that they can train on, than to have me alone with a super high-end rifle, with top of the line glass, but having to fight solo. https://www.patreon.com/posts/campf...paign=postshare_creator&utm_content=join_link Continue reading...
