But it names the people who made the deals, the effects of the deals and the incidents it has caused. I doubt if you will be able to watch the news the day after you read this with the same views you had before you read it. Are we seeing the last desperate attempts to maintain the old monopoly on the transfer of oil and making the world pay for our prosperity? What is going to happen if the dollar collapses? What happens if we just lose control of the pricing of the dollar if half the world , BRICS can also use their currency to price oil? Where did the NAZI and Libya gold go? Does China want to hold dollars after we "froze" Russia's reserves because of the Ukraine? They in the end give some hedges that can be used to survive the inflation of the dollar. Their big one is physical gold and silver. My grandfather had his nest egg in gold, as did his cousins in Germany, and it was taken away from them by the government. While you can hide it, if you have it in your possession and the government doesn't know about it, you can't pay your taxes or buy things with it. Until things collapse totally it will always be a barter item. While I see having some as a last ditch long term item, I don't see using it during a short term or even long term gradual collapse. I see the same thing with silver or other metals. He also has the new confidence in bitcoin. While it may only exist on the internet, you have to have a functioning net work with servers somewhere to use it. It is not a physical object. It only exists if there is a government allowed functioning network that is available to both parties. So far some of the digital currencies have been big winners, but there has been a lot of fraud as well and there is a good chance the whole thing is just another Ponzi scheme. While I think land is the best thing to hold if things collapse, much of the land ownership in the Confederated States after the war was transferred to the carpet baggers by the system of property taxes that could not be paid. The USSR, China, and various other countries have either seized property or created conditions that made it impossible to hold it. It also requires an armed presence or some form of civil society to both hold it and to be able to survive on it outputs. The biggest land owner in the US is Bill Gates. While that may sound great, it also means that it would make it easier if the government decides to limit or seize control of the land. It would be the single largest chunk of land held by one person in the country.
Yeah, I think you summarized it rather well. Gold or precious metals: the risk and cost of storage and the fact and the difficulty to use it for purchasing...which also tells the government and/or others that you have it. Keeping it in a bank vault invites the government(s) (I include local, country, State and Federal) the knowledge and access to it. I think of gold as personal insurance, but Gold Bugs will tell me that I was wrong as the past few years proved it's an investment also. Maybe they are right...I sure missed it and now can't afford $5000 an oz. Land. You got to pay taxes on it or lose it and taxes can be raised. Bitcoin. I am still not okay with Bitcoin. Perhaps it's because I don't know enough about it, but it seems to be to be based on nothing...at least our paper money is based on our government/nation promise of payment. Maybe I am old fashion or simply ignorant of its value, probably.
