The old Almacs gave the phase of the moon and moon rise and set so you would know when you had enough light to travel if the weather was clear. Candle, as defined , was 1 candle power and not a very tight beam either. Human eye will still define a lot at even that low of a level.. 3000 in spotlight would do a real number flashing it in some ones eyes, might even damage them. Do you use it for jogging or photos?
The headlamp is not that bright. And I run it on the diffuse flood setting most of the time. Mainly for being out in the dark, for whatever reason. And the headlamp is pointed downwards. The flashlight, on the other hand, can be aimed wherever is necessary. And can you imagine a 3000 lumen strobe in the eyeballs before getting hit with the crenelated head? While I have never used a flashlight for self defense, it can be used that way. Mainly, I like it because at a reasonable brightness, the run time is super long. And if I have to look far, I can.
