I have been using a Shooting Chrony Chronograph for over 20 years, heck I even shot one with a 40S&W pistol back around 2001, but alas, this company is no longer in business anymore and technology has provided us shooter’s with even more accurate ways of measuring our bullet speed. Today we can use magnetospeed chronographs and even newer Doppler radar based chronographs that have been in use by the Navy to measure the muzzle velocities of large bore 16” battle ship guns.

The MagnetoSpeed is the cheaper of the two, but requires the unit to be attached to the barrel with Velcro straps that would interfere with the barrel’s harmonic’s. I decided to go the Doppler radar path and have purchased a Garmin Xero C1 Chronograph. These by no means are cheap. $599 are the selling price for these.

As can be seen in the following pictures, this is quite small.
The instructions state that the unit be placed from 5”-15” from the muzzle’s side. If you are using handguns or bow’s, it is recommended that you shoot over the top of the unit.
YouTube users have shown that the Garmin unit has been able to measure the speed of sling shot’s and air soft projectiles.
This weekend is supposed to be a bit warmer with rain. I will be out on the range this weekend to try and put together a range report.

Looks like a lovely bit of tech. Looking forward to more info about it.

We won the battle of Midway on tech. Cracked the Japanese code and knew they were coming. When Japanese attacked us, our radar picked them up at about 35 miles and we made moves to check attack. Our dive bombers weren't spotted by Japanese until in dive. They had no radar. Now have doppler radar that is hand carried, that will track air gun pellets and arrows as well as bullets and computer built in will calculate data. All for about the price of a cheap rifle. Runs on batteries for up to 6 hours,
