Growing Chayote / Choko in containers...

I find Chokos very bland and tasteless, but apparently they are good as a pie filling extender, and in vegetable curries...they have good nutritional and dietary fibre value.

Not her first rodeo. Shows lots of tricks. Charcoal for fertilizer, trimming leaves, method of propagation, etc. Still lot left to learn. Do you need other fertilizers? How often do you water? Pollinate by hand, bees, wind? Sun, shade? What temps does it thrive at and what kills it?

Good first start, but would have to grow it for a year or so to get all the bugs out of it. She knows what they are. Again if you are going to have a useful survival garden, you have to have someone with experience doing it, First attempt with all resources available may well fail. Pests, disease, too hot and it bolts, too cold and the fruit doesn't set, too much light and it sun scalds, too little light and it gets tall and weak stems etc.

Interesting, thanks for the post. Funny, lots of food with no real taste, rice, millet, oats, poi, tofu and other soy bean products, bean sprouts, etc and yet they are among the worlds greatest staples. We long ago learned how to spice it up with other flavors. Veggies, peppers, onions, spices and sauces, etc Rice noodles have no real flavor, but one of my all time favorite foods is the Thai spiced noodle dishes with chicken or tofu.
