In 2016 my oldest voted in his first Presidential election. It was a proud Mama moment. I put on my going to voting patriotic outfit and with a big smile went to the polls with my boy. I didn't ask him who he voted for but he really seemed to enjoy the experience. Fast forward to 2020. My youngest is of legal voting age and I have been looking forward to taking him to his first voting experience. He was a Trump fan but in the last year he has gone silent. He declared two weeks ago he was not going to vote, he didn't like either one of them. In his words different people, same results. He believes nothing will change. After some talks, the kid has agreed to at least vote on local issues like re-introducing the wolves or not but he is frustrated with the state of the country.

I have since started asking the kids that visit the house and each one (all Gen Z) have said they are not going to vote, all stated they disliked both candidates and do not believe anything will change. I know we see on TV protests of young folks but there seems to be a sector of the young that have given up. I am at a loss of what to say to these kids.

No doubt in my mind that the brain washing of American students is all about communism and the actions to make the kids despise their own culture.

Tell your kids that it is their Civic Duty as Citizens to vote... They can “Write In” a name for any position where they do Not Or just Can Not vote for those on the ballot for that position... AlaskaChick told our kids she voted for “Donald. pause —- Duck” for President... There are lots more positions on the Ballot than just President and VP, that also deserve their attention and votes...

Party affiliation is a choice, voting is a freeman's responsibility. Tell him to write in whoever/whatever he wants. But neglecting the down ballot is one of the major reasons we have the corrupt mess we do. Most learn their ways starting at the local level. If you don't vote for what you want, don't bitch about what you get.

In my house if you don't vote you don't get to talk about politics until the next election. You give up your voice if you do not vote. So if you don't bother to vote you don't get to join the conversation because you chose to be silent. Drove my brother in law crazy and he very loudly announced when he had voted as he was dying to join in the lively discussion around our coffee table. I do believe voting day should replace some other useless holiday like presidents day and be a national holiday. But see I get to have a voice is saying this because I already voted. So its a put up or shut up moment :). You want to be an adult time to walk the walk.

All the above are good points, starting with duty. There is NO LAW requiring a selection for ALL the offices, you can leave them blank and the rest will be counted. "All politics is local" and local is the place to start thinking, NOT at the top of the heap. Moto, DRAG his tush to the voting booth whether or not he reads the resumes of the school board candidates first.

Motomom34, we have had this problem here several years with my sons, even being in the mil. both would state that they wouldn't be voting for the same reasons! I explained to them that NOT voting would be the same as handing a win to the worst of the two or who ever, which would be worse then what we already have! This time around, both have agreed that while they don't want ether, they have to choose one of the two, failing to make that choice hands it to ONE and that One is likely far worse than what we now have! A vote waisted is one never cast, and while it may have no effect on the outcome based on our electoral collage where the large cities determine the outcomes, each still gets counted, and if the popular vote is FAR different then the electoral vote, there will be a major issue to address within the states that have had those issues, and could actually change the results of this election!

If they don't believe anything will change, ask them what it is that they want changed.
They'll more than likely tell you that they don't know.

Nobody can do it for him. It's every citizens duty. To honor those who fought and died to give us the right to vote.

That's a good sign as most first time voters vote democrat anyways.

  13. UncleMorgan

UncleMorgan I like peeling bananas and (occasionally) people.

The real-world political information available to people of different ages varies. Teenagers don't see or consider political issues that older persons do, and they wouldn't/couldn't process them the same way anyhow because their life experiences are not the same.

In the end, they should vote for the person they dislike the least. They don't have to be right, or even to vote wisely. They just have to try. They will get better at voting with experience.

In the meantime, it is VITAL that they vote just to keep their right to vote. Rights are like opportunities: If you don't use them you lose them.

Even now, the leftists are working hard to keep our children and grandchildren from wanting to vote, and (in the end) from being able to vote.

The state of "not wanting to vote because..." is proof that the leftist manipulation is already working.

something I noticed lately is many SEEM to be basing their voting more on the politician... and their feeling regarding the same...

thing is right now it isn't so much about the politician as it is about the direction our country will be going...

try telling the young ones... if they don't vote and socialism wins they will have to live under it...

helps if they truly understand what socialism is and how it has worked out so far...

voting or not voting is still a choice...

ya the man (Trump) can be abrasive...

    BUT...

he stands for many of the things that make our country what is is... or at least was...

    AND...

the other side wants to destroy that...

so... NOT voting is still a choice and becomes consent by silence...

OH you don't care.... then it's OK for us to do what we want to do...

so by not voting you help one side or the other win by default... and your perceived silence...

can guarantee they accomplish there agenda...

so vote for what you want this country to be... and not so much the politician...

they stir the poo on purpose... cause confusion with the intent to prevent their loss...

they been doing it all along...

so all need to understand that not voting actually helps them toward a win...

I have voted Democrat, Republican, Independent and for Ross Perot. Enjoy your ban..

The hottest item on the ballot being discussed in the house is whether to re-introduce wolves back into CO. Kind of silly because wolves are already here and it is only 20 wolves but if politicians get involved it will cost millions. Kid seems real interested in voting on that.

I took your advice and asked him what change he wanted. He wanted the bullshit to stop. When I asked what BS he was talking about he said that our voices are not heard. On our level, no one listens. He wants the leaders to listen to the common person.

It's easy for me. The Democrats talk gun-grabbing and support abortion. I can't support the taking of freedoms or murder. I really don't understand all the hate for Trump. My largest beef is the spending and increasing the debt. Otherwise, he is a nice disruptive breath of fresh air.

He is far from alone in his thinking, and age isn't the issue, it's the politicians not listening to anyone who isn't paying out millions in support of them, you, me, him, we don't matter to the them because we are just the little people to be controlled and manipulated, and it's never going to change as long as those politicians keep taking all that money to buy and maintain their power, ALWAYS at the expense of we the people! If we get another 4 years of Trump, watch the left melt down and many hundreds of political carriers come to a screeching halt, as they continue to be exposed for the crooks they are, and the people send them packing!

. If Trump gets reelected, the 4 year temper tantrum will continue. I had an incident with one of my closest relatives. My fault, I snapped. Usually I just ignore but the wrong button got pushed.

Everyone in CO got mail in ballots. maybe I will have the kid invite his friends over for pizza and ballot filling party. Maybe I can get them excited if they understand some of the issues. We can debate pros & cons. School seemed to neglect Civics

There's an easy counter argument. If he doesn't speak up, the "leaders" can't hear, even if they were inclined to listen.
