they took civics out of the teaching curriculum years ago...

didn't fit the agenda... thought it was intentional back then... still think it is...

if you don't know how your government works it's way easier for someone to lie to you about it...

and selectively tell you about your rights... and suggest what is good or bad...

here is one I remember from when my sons were in grammar school...

the 2nd amendment is bad because it allows for civil war...

my reply... news flash what did those who framed and created our form of government just do to obtain our freedom?

my sons stopped caring much about school after that... ya they still passed but came to me for a lot of info...

I like that idea! Get the kids together explain the issue . . . let them share their thoughts, you share what you know about the issue and they can decide how they want to vote. They become part of the process.

I question how much we are heard as well. I still vote, just in case someone is listening.

@Motomom34 i think the ballot/ pizza party is a great idea. It will provide space for a private discussion that doesn't get overrun by rhetoric, which is what media sound bytes promote.

engagement starts person to person because discussion involves looking at what you believe and why.. most people parrot the media sound bytes without ever examine what they believe and support..

one of the most difficult things to teach or learn is that you can make a difference... where most people failed is they give up 5 minutes before miracle occurs.

change is possible and the hard part is having the determination to engage over and over in the same discussion, Many times feeling like you are not impacting anything and constantly engaging over and over

An example: on this site, we have lots of posts about how 'awful' things are.... awful-ism runs rampant some days.... Most of those posts are re-posts of some news report. In this case the posters are letting the media manipulate them into showing how bad things are and the re-posting of how bad things are just gives more doom and gloom weight to 'awful ism' promoted by the mainstream media.

the reality is there are 50+ major cities in the USA and the rioting is in what 5 or 6 cites? yet we let the media focus us on those 5-6. We don't discuss the peaceful ones or the good things that are present. Not sure what it is in human nature that we always want to discuss just the bad and bring forth 'how awful things are' but its there.

my point to this example is... there is rioting in 5-6 major cites not the whole world and not the whole USA. So why do we continue to let the news media manipulate us into thinking everything is going to hell in a hand basket?

Does it make a difference to point this out? I dont honestly know. I think i annoy a couple of the mods.... alot.... by continually saying this but that doesn't mean I am giving up. So making a difference is the willingness to engage in a conversation for change even when you cannot tell if its making an impact. I dont just discuss this here i do it everywhere when other people fall into awefulism and want to discuss 'rioting' and how awful America is today.

The world is changing... the question is... what do you want it to look like? a world where the media keeps focusing our attention on rioting and civil unrest in a few cites or do you want a different kind of world. If you want something else.... and this is what i tell people who want me to participate in awefulism... if you want something else.... what is it and what kind of conversations are you willing to engage in, over and over and over, to make what you want happen?

its like building a muscle... practice that conversation for change, speak it into existence, dont just wait for someone else to lead.

    Rant off.

Ronnie Reagan was the last POTUS that was really likable in my opinion. Even the air-traffic controllers loved him, some more than others. It’s hard to get excited about Donny or Joey understandably, but one provides laughs at least. :D

I don't like the choices either, and I seriously don't think either candidate is what we need to fix this mess. I don't believe there is a political solution. I do believe the virus should be left to run it's course and reduce the population considerably. It's time to thin the herd.Too many people means too many rules, too many special interests, too many that feel entitled.

Our country is at a tipping point politically. Do we delay another 4 years what seems to be a collectivist movement fueled by ignorance of history and young Millennial and Gen Z resent against even middle class prosperity? Or do we attempt to turn the behemoth "ship of state" back in the direction that the Constitutional Founders envisioned? One would think that any kind of delaying action is better than submitting with bended knee to a new Utopian Socialist Statist Republic.

One of the interesting and hopeful things I've seen coming into this election is that more and more "regular people" are stepping up to run for office. They see the powers that be ignore our voices, and they're running to make a difference. Kim Klasik in Baltimore. Joe Collins going up against Mad Maxine Waters for Los Angeles. Marjorie Green in Atlanta. Shelley Luther in Dallas. The list goes on. Veterans. Business owners. Regular people throwing their hat into the ring for the first time. Will they win? Probably not. They don't have the $$ juggernaut behind them that the establishment does, but in this digital age all it takes is one campaign ad to go viral to get your face into people's heads. Maybe some of them will take the seats. Maybe they'll prove to be the first of many regular people to stand up and say, we can do better than some out of touch career politician who spends more money on ice cream than many of us spend on our entire grocery bill.

Unfortunately the zoomers are super open to the ideas of socialism and Marx because the horrors of those ideologies aren't real to them. They can read a book but it might as well be a Stephen King or John Carpenter novel for them. The Jewish community kept the realities of Nazi Germany alive in people's memory by telling their stories, but so many others just wanted to forget and move on, and now what they went through is forgotten as well. Now the kids are told socialism is Sweden and Denmark and happy diverse countries where we all get along and no one is mean and the government takes care of us just like mom did. Since so many kids live in a sort of communist dictatorship for the first 18 years of their life (do what mom and dad tell you and they'll give you food, clothing, housing, medical care, and Xbox) many of them seem to view this as the same thing, minus the grounding and having their phone taken away.

Incidentally the riots span far more than 5 or 6 cities. According to Princeton University, 48 of the 50 states have experienced destructive riots, with 570 violent "demonstrations" in nearly 220 locations across the country. The only two major cities on the top 50 cities list that are unaffected to date are Fresno, CA and Mesa, AZ. Within the 100 largest cities by population, 74 have reported riots. True not all of them have escalated to the widespread destruction we see in the top 5, but for me anyway, part of being prepared is not only to see the major fire, but track where all the sparks are landing in case some of them hit a little too close to home.

    @Motomom34
I understand him. I get it. Nothing ever changes so what does it matter. For the many of the years that I lived overseas I never voted for exactly the same reasons. Sometimes it was because it was damn near impossible to vote and others times it was exactly the same reasons "don't like either of the candidates...nothing ever changes anyway" so why bother...

My changed attitude was caused by two things: 1. The election of Obama and my horror story with ObamaCare
    2. Election of the outsider, Trump.

Upon my return stateside, ObamaCare forced me by law to purchase overpriced, no-value medical insurance or suffer a severe penalty. I chose the latter and financially it hurt but what hurt more was the fact that the government of the country I had served in and out of the military for close to 40 years would FORCE me to do something that no sane individual with the sense God gave a goose would do - I mean - what would be next? This was America, right? And, yet I had just been treated like a subject...a subjugated subject...do it or else!

I realized at that point that what people had been trying to tell me was true, the American Government was totally out of control. I started fact checking the Obama programs, laws, regulations and the more I learned the more I burned. It's that simply. What even burned me more is I allowed this. Yes, me and those like me who didn't think the problem completely through to solution or due to laziness or even apathy - we allowed this by doing nothing.

I cringe to think what would have happened if Hillary Clinton was our President but we reversed that decision to the shock of America and the entire World, and certainly the elites. Surely if EVER there was proof how one's vote matters it was the election of President Trump.

And, given his administration, how can one say nothing ever changes - because he HAS changed all aspects of the country with accomplishments even on the toughest topics which most weak-knee politicians won't touch or even talk about. Perhaps your son doesn't like his style, I must admit I don't either; nevertheless, he gets the job done - period - and that's what we pay him for, not his sweet words, not his dancing ability around hot topics but actually accomplishing something with the power he is given in 4-years, on behalf of the people that voted him in there. He works!

So, your son is wrong. And, you should tell him he is wrong. Even if he doesn't want to vote for Trump then he should vote against Biden...for there is ALWAYS someone you want to vote against even if there is no one you want to vote for. And, for good reason...

We lucked out getting Trump to pick up the hand we were dealt after allowing Obama 8-years due to our stupidity. Anyone else wouldn't have been able to accomplish anything given the roadblocks and log jams. How did he do it? He's NOT a politician and and does what he promises. That's it. No sweet political words and no soft shoe around the hard questions. We will not be so lucky again and they certainly will not give us another chance.

Again, your son is wrong but I do understand him... Nevertheless, he should vote for someone and if he cannot then he should vote against someone...but vote.

For me, this election isn't about the Presidency. This is about if America lives or dies. I truly believe this but that is another topic...

Damn Bandit99, you flat nailed it with that one!
Obummer, what a joke! That man did far more damage to this country in his 8 years, then any two presidents before him, pick the worst two, and Obummer just laughed and out did them in BAD!
Fortunatly, I never had to serve under that Fool of a Took! Instead, I got to serve whilst Billery ran around doing god knows what and generally making the U.S. Mil. absolutely miserable where ever she landed! Her Husband generally hated the Mil. and together, they made it hell for us, and screwed us when ever they could! Arguably, Bush/Cheany did far worse for the Mil. ( And the country) but Obummer is the cause of most all of the problems we have here!
I too was forced to "Purchase" Obummercare, and I chose to suffer by paying the penalties instead, and when it finally gets thrown out, the Feds will owe us big, or get sued big! I did vote, I always have, and like it or not, I always pinch my nose and vote against the one I feel would do worse! And, I think we might see another stunner next week with another 4 years of the Orange Man, which is just fine by me, as he ain't Pedo Joe and Hoe, and we know he will continue to do the best job he can FOR this country,, and he will continue to unmask the left for what they are, and hopefully, we can start doing something to remove those assholes who would destroy this country!

There are two problems with JoJo. First, a vote for her will take one away from one of the other candidates, to me, NFG. Secondly, she seems a bit too "woke" for my tastes. But if the pie was cut more along the 3 equal piece lines, I gotta admit, I'd give her a more detailed looksee.

voted Trump way back because I couldn't vote for hitlery...

and realized any vote for anyone else was... while a statement...

that sadly the politicians would pretty much ignore... until the next round of voting... and was going to help hitlery...

was a Libertarian for a time too... but noticed a LOT of the left leaning dems flocking to that party...

even saw one or two already talkin confiscate guns... common sense gun control etc...

so I now vote for the Constitution and Bill of Rights FIRST... then look at the politician...

that said I carefully as possible examine the politicians track record on votes...

seen so many say one thing and then do the opposite...

sadly too many of those... professional liar types... keep getting re-elected

So up-date on the kid. He did not vote for a President. I did not push the issue but he was very firm in his dislike for both. The next day he came home from work and asked if my life had changed, which of course it had not. He really has no faith in the system and seems so cynical. He believes different day same BS.

I listened to a group of Gen Z talking and they know the Debt Clock and are not happy. They know that issue is going to land in their lap. I know the media tries to say that Gen Z wants socialism but I am not so sure. Those kids do not really believe in 9/11. They talk about the New World Order etc. these kids have a more woke attitude IMO.
