Welcome @SoaySheep glad you joined the monkey. I checked out your site and was wondering if you raise the sheep just for meat or do you raise for wool also?
Soay have among the best wool for hand spinning. It really likes to cling to itself, but the fibers are too short for commercial carding. They also will scrape it off on fenceposts or trees so if you wanted to collect it you'd have to shear them early in the spring. I don't have the energy for that so the birds like to pick the wool off the fences and line their nests with it. I raise them for meat and mowing a fire break around my house. The first things they eat in a new pasture are poison ivy and honeysuckle. The meat tastes like elk, not the grocery store lamb that has a sort of soapy taste which you tend to get from wool sheep.
Welcome aboard! Glad to have you join in, have a swing through the branches and see what there is to see!
