I think this statement from the Time article sums things up nicely:

I think many people around the world are getting very tired of the establishment. Brexit, Venezuela and Trump.

People know that everything is a fraud. This system was designed to do exactly what it is doing and the rich are getting much much richer and more powerful and people are tired of it. Nobody wants to be a slave and when they finally figure out that they are, they will be very very upset.

I love Iceland. Ever since they tossed the bankers in prison, I knew they were on the right track. Now they are actually moving toward true liberty? This is fantastic!

Wonder if they accept old, worn out ethic Irish-Americans for immigration? :):)
Any country that throw banker in jail can't be bad! Hmmm...seriously, I never consider Iceland until this moment. I need to look at their gun laws. Wife could be a problem due to cold... I do know their economy completely collapse not so long ago which could be good for me.

It isn't that cold along the south coastal areas. The Gulf Stream carries (relatively) warm water up that way.

Guns in Iceland — Firearms, gun law and gun control

Things People Say Without Thinking- Gun Ownership in Iceland

    "
There is no guaranteed right to own a gun in Iceland.

You may only own a gun with permission of the government.

All sales of guns are registered and kept with an official registrar.

You must demonstrate a valid purpose for owning a firearm.

"Self Defense" is specifically not a valid purpose for owning a firearm.

You may only own a firearm if you have done the required training, and you are 18 years old.

A unique identifying mark is required by law on all guns.

To bad about their gun laws. Way to European in their thinking.

In the defense of Iceland, they do not exactly have a militarized, brute police force --nor do they worship them and call them heroes.

Thus, even without guns, the people did, in fact oust the corrupt banking cartel and establish a viable political party to counter the corporate disease.

Why is violent crime so rare in Iceland? - BBC News

"Iceland is awash in guns, yet it has one of the lowest violent crime rates in the world. US law student Andrew Clark asks why."

    "
GunPolicy.org estimates there are approximately 90,000 guns in the country - in a country with just over 300,000 people.

The country ranks 15th in the world in terms of legal per capita gun ownership. However, acquiring a gun is not an easy process -steps to gun ownership include a medical examination and a written test.

Police are unarmed, too. The only officers permitted to carry firearms are on a special force called the Viking Squad, and they are seldom called out.

In addition, there are, comparatively speaking, few hard drugs in Iceland."
