Is Climate Change the new Cold War?

I grew up during the Cold War and remember the movies, TV dramas, books, and magazines seemed to tie into the coming nuclear war with the Soviet Union. I vaguely remember Ford, but vividly remember Carter and Reagan. Carter seemed to expand government as his fix for the nation, but Reagan seemed to extol the virtues capitalism and the strongest military as the way to curb (if not defeat) the Evil Empire. It also seemed to work as the Soviet Union realized the US actually had a backbone to stand against them and that communism was unsustainable.

Now the movies, TV dramas, books, magazines, and social websites are crying out about Climate Change as the newest world ending catastrophe. The twist is that only Socialism will save the planet now. According to a college student Socialist I talked to: "We will probably have to get rid of the capitalists, because they will delay and obstruct the peoples will.". That sounds pretty much like communism to me. Will politicians, who have benefited from capitalism, sell the country's future to Socialists for the "promise" of saving the planet?

I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Only 3 or 4 percent of people say that global warming, the environment and pollution were the most important problem.
More than 2/3 of people refuse to pay more than $10 dollars per month or $100 per year to help fix global warming.
So very few people really care that much.

True ,, but with our politicians , they seem to jump on the bandwagon with the voices of the few rather than the majority . The only majority they care about are their votes .

A lot of the politicians stand to make money from the Carbon Tax system. The Global Warming is just propaganda to reinforce the governments ability to remove more money from your wallet and give the government more control over the population.
So, yeah, it does resemble the Cold War baloney, which I also remember from back when Eisenhower was Prez.
The gov depends on some kind of Boogyman to keep the populace under their thumb and allow them to suck extra money from the citizenry.

Some of the most polluted places on this planet are in the former Soviet.

I worked an oil spill in the Komi Republic back in 1994. (Komi is one of the CIS, or part of the former Soviet)

it is a heavy oil, with a lot of paraffin and asphalt. The spill was big enough to see from space.
It was also evident that what we worked was just one in a long series of spills. The oil company (Komineft) was paid fro the oil - as measured at the wellhead. No incentive for delivery - or penalty for spills.

Compare to the pristine North Slope of Alaska - both areas were developed at nearly the same time....

If you use "komi oil spill" as a search string - you will see this mass leakage is still going on today....

The largest oil spill on earth is still actively spilling, it's output exceeds all other large spills annually, and has not been stopped!
Look up Niger River delta Oil Spill, Shell Oil to see just how deep that rabbit hole goes!
It is literally a river of oil exceeding the BP/Deep Water Horizon spill output!

Where is the hue and cry to stop this? Where is the rest of the world stepping in and doing something? WHY is Shell Oil not being held accountable for this and forced to do something about it!!!

The Cold War had the advantage of an external stressor, "The Bomb". Now, we have internal boogy men pointing across the aisle instead of across the ocean. There is a REAL difference between Khruschev and Pelosi.

The ongoing spill is the result of a failed terrorist attack. The terrrs blew a couple of wells as a side benefit.

Same reason that US companies left the Amazon - too many 'rebel' attacks.

A lot of those people want global warming fixed, but they want it fixed using government money. Just don't ask them where the government is going to get the money from.

Yeah they want it fixed, but to fix it they don't want to be inconvenienced in any way and the majority are unwilling to pay more than $1 per month.
The Reuters article I saw said the number of people willing to pay x amount to fix global warming didn't exceed 50% until the amount went to $1 or less per month.

They have given up using climate change to scare us into their agenda. There has been crazy Greenland ice melt this year and not a peep about it. Bet this is the first you are hearing about it?

The new plan is to use pandemics to scare you into doing what they want.
Last moth there was a slew of stories about "new flu in china with plandemic potential", "bubonic plegue in Mongolia".
I bet they were testing the fear these kinds of stores invoked.

My well is fixed and I have hot water, what else matters? Oh yes, the water softener will be installed next week.
And my torn rotator cuff is getting better.

It is good that your injury is healing. Pain, discomfort and restricted movement of the affected area of your shoulder sucks. I know having been there a long time ago. Giving up volleyball was a necessary but worthwhile sacrifice.
