Scalia's recent general health does not appear to have been particularly robust. According to his physician: Justice Scalia, 79, had a history of heart trouble and high blood pressure, and was considered too weak to undergo surgery for a recent shoulder injury.

Should an autopsy have been performed?

A good question, but a quite irrelevant suggestion as far as many are concerned from the conspiracy theory proponents (supporting their death by murder theory).

Not performing an autopsy gives them oxygen to claim that it WAS foul play, and that not performing the autopsy is proof positive that it was as they suspected all along...murder most foul!. Performing an autopsy with a result that refutes the death by murder conspiracy theory, just adds an extra layer of conspiracy to the notion that Scalia was murdered. i.e. the autopsy was deliberately botched or the results falsified, or some other BS ad hoc claim. The family had the option of having an autopsy performed on their departed dad/grandad, but they chose not to do so. This of course gives the death by assassination conspiracy theorists the opportunity to assert, without any evidence, that the family were coerced by evil forces of goobermint tyranny not to request an autopsy, because such an autopsy would bring to light "the truth" and expose Obama and his evil minions as the "real" criminal conspirators.

There is little prospect of convincing conspiracy theorists that their theories are unsubstantiated bunk.

Should Obama attend Scalia's funeral?? A lot of digital ink has been used to criticise Obama for sending Joe Biden as the Presidency's representative Scalia's funeral. Again, it is a no win situation for Obama regardless of whether he warms a pew at Scalia's funeral or not.

If Obama attends the funeral in person, there will be may critics who will claim that his presence would be unwelcome by the family as being in poor taste; distracting away from the central purpose of the funeral; and that it would tend to politicise what is essentially a religious ritual; tending to be a hypocritical display of contrived false respect for a man responsible for knobbling significant elements of Obama's administration's social reform programs for many years.

If Obama does not attend Scalia's funeral then he will be accused of all kinds of insensitivity and disrespect....which is precisely the approach presently being taken by many of the pundits populating the roosts of the conservative right commentariat.

My view is that time spent by Obama, playing golf and getting some sun, while cogitating how he is going to insert a radical socialist pro choice, anti 2nd amendment, atheist candidate onto the SCOTUS bench before Scalia's seat gets cold, would be time well spent....even if it's just a bit of pointless fantasy. What will most likely happen is that some guy/gal, who believes that they can channel the original Constitutional intentions of the Founding Fathers will be appointed. I do hope that such appointee follows closely the Jane Roberts school of psychic channelling.....they could do no worse than (former) Justice Antonin Scalia. Requiescat in pace.

Given that Scalia died in a hunting lodge....I do have to wonder whether Dick Cheney was also on the guest list. The pillow over the head may have been placed deliberately to conceal the bird shot??? Just a thought.
