Medical topic not mentioned that much - chiefly because our DIY mentality tends to bypass anything beyond our particular reach >> but SHTF blood typing won't be eazy and even possible in some cases - but blood transfusions just might be within reach - knowing your way around the topic could be essential .... Prep School Daily You need to know blood types for you, your family, and all the other members of your group. You also need to know what types of blood you can receive and to whom you can donate. A+ can receive A+, A-, O+,O- can donate to A+, AB+ A- can receive A-, O- can donate to A+, A-, AB+, AB- B+ can receive B+, B-, O+, O- can donate to B+, AB+ B- can receive B-, O- can donate to B+, B-, AB+, AB- AB+can receive everything--universal acceptor can donate only to AB+ AB- can receive A-, B-, AB-, O- can donate to AB+, AB- O+ can receive O+, O- can donate to A+, B+, AB+, O+ O- can receive only O- can donate to everyone--universal donor Because O- people can donate to anyone, they are called universal donors, or in more colorful language, walking blood banks. If you have one of these people in your group, and only one set of body armor, this person gets it.
Thanks for the heads up . I know my blood type having been a doner for years. Dog tags might also be of some value with pertinent information on them.
I was shocked when my wife of 40 years asked me if I knew my blood type. uh yeah since basic. She doesn't know hers. Weird how some things get ignored even in the closest relationships.
Same here learned my blood type in Basic more years ago than I can count. Military went from service number to SS number how many out there still knows their service number?
Type O-Shit negative, i'm bleeding! I have known mine ( AB+) since basic, and during training, got stuck twice a day, and practiced sticking on some one else every day, so, yea! They called me the Vampire, I could stick you and you wouldn't even know it! LOL I wear a wrist bracelet that tells all the info folks need, including that I am a Medic, so when they find my corps, they know to search it really good!
I recall my first blood test... being the studious type back then, studied all night for it; got an A+ on that test.
studied blood chemistry in high school - we had to prepare our own smear slides and determine the blood type - got to study the other types first hand and learn about the compatibility >>still keep a microscope/lab set up in stock for the med possibilities ....
A+...but it may be alcohol diluted depending on the day and time..... Maybe that is a health benefit... dunno.
