Yeah, so for home defense I dun got a Mossberg 590A1. I never bought a light for it, though. Any recommendations?
I must admit that I am jealous. After a lot of research, I came to the conclusion that the 590A1 was a hell'va lot of shotgun for the money, probably more than I would ever need but boy-oh-boy what a nice gun. No, I haven't bought one yet but it's definitely on the short list. The entire 590 series is really nice but the 590A1 is the cream at the top.
I had a Nebo or something like it on mine at one time and it attached to the barrel. Long since took it off because it was getting loose and I didn't like the settings going from light to red pointer. I have a small Thrunite I hold in my hand and since it's tiny I can cradle, rack, and shoot no problems.
I got a 590A1 20ish years ago. I added a SureFire forend (had to remove the bayonet lug if I recall correctly) and a collapsible stock. 623LMG-B
I just built the ULTIMATE 590 A-1 this last month, It's really the ultimate pump action shotgun you can buy, bomb proof and reliable, and fully Mil-Spec, that actually means something! Mine is the XS signts speed feed stock version and originally had the Mag-Pul for end which sucked, so I swapped it out for an original "Corn Bob" for end and then milled it for the light. The light is made by Defentac and it's the 1600 Lumin light/laser combo, and has magnetic recharging capabilities, that light absolutely ROCKS, and was by far the best option out there for high lumin output!
Grabbed a couple of pics of my 590-A1 This side has on/off switch. You can see the bayonet lug had to be removed for the light This side has a momentary switch Knoxx Spec-Ops stock
Nothing to fancy here, just good proven stuff that dosn't snag or get in the way, and keeps thing running smooth when things get sporty!
I remember getting mine with a Slugger barrel and bought a separate barrel for shot and can swap out the stock for a pistol grip quickly.
I never shot enough to get comfortable with a pistol grip pump action. I mean, I can shoot them ok. I just don't care for them. I suppose too many tens of thousands of rounds with a straight grip (or whatever it is called).
