Where I work is looking to set up a few Game cameras around our park to help us find were the best place to set up a live hog trap is. We did have two game cameras old ones but one was stolen and even just with two cameras its a large area to cover now we have only one. I'm looking for some advice for the game cameras we would like them to have solar panels on them and we have talked about the idea of cellular. So how does the cellular work? I know one company I was looking at Spypoint has monthly or annual plans are they all like this? If so can you get rates for multiple? We are wanting to buy two or four more cameras.
I have a friend that has the cellular ones and his wife loves them. She gets the thumbnail on her cellphone when the critters come to feed. I thought he said it was either 10 or 20 bucks a year, payable yearly. I don't remember the brand.
I used 4 Spypoints for a couple years, then in the third year 2 wouldn’t transmit pics. Turns out they needed a firmware update to fix, which for that brand required bringing them in, hooking up to a pc. The next time they stopped transmitting, I dumped them and picked up Stealth cams with solar panels. I keep 2 out year-round and I haven’t had to touch them (pretty good in the subzero conditions in the UP). I think it’s like $15/month per camera with unlimited pics, or somewhat less for limited packages. I like them because updates can be done remotely. The stealth cams are a couple years newer, and have higher resolution. They also have a pretty cool feature where you can filter for “just bucks”, turkeys, bear, whatever. There are times where you can get a lot of false triggers, or a group of does hanging out, so being able to filter is nice. I have noticed that the Stealths seem to have a narrower field of view.
Spypoint Flex cameras, can't comment on other brands, 12volt so you will need a fair size solar panel or batterys last a couple months depending on the settings, About a 3 minute delay on photo transfer to the phone, Put them up ladder high if on public land. Something big and black on the left. pretty sure this is a coyote on left
Good security for a remote site. Get an idea of who goes where. Neighbor had one set up and caught people poaching firewood. Talked with police, went with deed and cops. Given a choice, pay for firewood based on timber cruiser's estimate of footage and pay a fine, They paid, even though it included about 8 cords he had cut himself.
Had a blizzard here yesterday...but...I plan on putting a camera very close to this game trail...soon..
That's not a bad price! I think I talked to them and they were trying to get me to join there "Club" thing for $99.99 per year I did not understand how it worked at all
Walmart has a nice almost like a stick that can adjust the hight and rotate the camera and as long as you can get the fork feet in the ground you have a place for your camera. I'm sure you already know about them but the Walmart one thinks was $15 and it's held up to hogs charging at it.
