Me and the wife live in Woodruff South Carolina we are in the process of trying to buy around four acres up on the mountain in North Carolina for off-grid living we might be willing to let another couple or just another person or two come and join us in our adventure but you must be able to carry your own weight and have something to bring to the table. Please respond to this with some information and ideas or if you're in the process of buying land and you need someone to join you my wife and I are very comfortable in the Outdoors. I'm a retired mechanic we are both in our forties she's in food and beverage we just want to live in nature get away from the rat race let's talk

I would be all for it. I'm at a very transitional phase of my life currently and what you have described sounds like exactly what I've been looking for. I'm in the process of selling an estate in Texas so I'm going to be getting a substantial amount of money in about a month which I'd like to put towards the goal of going off grid. I'm just a small town, 28 year old man who is already burned out on living within the system. If you can offer an escape, I will gladly take it.

I'm a hard worker with a mind for construction and basic knowledge of carpentry tools. I'm a very even tempered Irish, german and native born Texan who is very friendly and always willing to offer help to my neighbor. I'm technologically literate when it comes to most current technology and I hope to follow a dream of making music and animations one day. (I already have the programs to do such a thing but no time to do it with the way my life is.) I'm no stranger to the outdoors and I can pull my own weight with what needs to be done to sustain a life off grid. I even have an idea for a subterranean house that I would like to build if possible.

We can talk about the situation more and I'll be happy to answer any questions.

I know of a 7 acre lot for sale near Brevard. Don't know much of the details, but could get them if you're interested. It's part of an estate belonging my wife's late parents. May be released by the end of the month or by the end of the year at the latest.

Interested? Let me know. If not, that's ok too.

Update more info - near lake Toxaway in Sapphire, N.C.

We live easily within 90 minutes of Hickory, NC. It would be "very hard" for us to move in our current situation.

But that doesn't rule out purchasing the property "next door" or dividing up a property and purchasing that with you. Would have to convince the wife. We would hold it for retirement or as our BOL.

I can bring communications (ham radio) and DC electrical knowledge to the table. I do computer work (security) for a living but that wouldn't be very useful in the case of an EMP (no more computers).

    Thanks.

Sapphire NC, 7 acres approx - wooded, with a flat area where an old schoolhouse used to sit. It has a well that had a hand pump on it at one time. Don't know if the well is still viable. It also has a spring.

About 315' W x 1200' L irregular shape according to the plat map, just north of the jct of Route 281 and US 64 (if you have Google Earth), located in Hogsback township, Transylvania County.

Appraisal card says it 8.000 ac. Plat map says 6.65 ac ??? (Don't have enough info to explain that one). A second adjoining parcel is 0.300 ac and both need to be sold together. Once purchased however, the smaller lot can be resold immediately to another individual who is known to be very seriously interested (owns the neighboring property).

Also if you have Google Earth, you can look at least the surrounding area. Looks like there are a number of lakes. Probably good fishin'. Can't say for sure. Never been to North Carolina and I'm a lousy fisherman.

This would seriously be a dream come true for a few friends and myself. What is your limit on people that you would be comfortable with on the same property? I have two friends who would be willing to help out by bring skills and resources to the table. One of them has a girlfriend but my other friend and I are single.

I have yet to mention this to anyone but I'm pretty sure they are ready for a change as well.

Wife and Sister-in-law talked it over last night -

Looking at $108, 000 for the 6.5 acre lot, and $8,500 for the .3 acre lot. The smaller lot provides access to the main road. If sold, the new owner would have to grant road easement (as it would be in his best interest to do because it allows him to access parts of his land as well). These amounts are pretty much in line with an appraisal done a little over a year ago, as I understand it.

Hello everyone. I have been looking into going off grid as well for the last couple of years. I've been looking at land and Yurts or geo homes. I'm wanting to get out of the rat race and the drama. I am 46 single (has a cat currently), Army veteran (2nd Amendment believer). I have worked many manufacturing industries (glass, wood, metal, etc.) and I have also done security work. I think that growing/raising (or hunting for) your own food is the way to go. Working for someone else so they can have the newest BMW just isn't for me anymore. I'd rather work to better my life and the lives of others in a community. I have visited a couple who has some land in KY last year and I have talked with a lady who has a big farm in VA. I haven't went there yet as it's quite a drive (I live on the south side of Indianapolis) but I have seen some pictures of the place. I would like to find a legitimate online source of income if I took the leap off grid rather than finding another job and commuting so more time and effort could be spent on the building of and securing of a community.
