Here is my review of the Scout Squad. Its a great all purpose rifle with a bit more firepower.

I have salivated a long time over the SOCOM...however, with the current price of ammo it isn't practical for me unless I start reloading also, even 5.56 is too pricey these days. Luckily, I purchased most of my 5.56 before the price increases for about .30 cents a round; however, I can't justify owning a gun I can't shoot so...no SOCOM for Bandit. Nice video though, always appreciate a bit of gun porn with my morning coffee. :) Thanks!

The price is a major factor in keeping folks from enjoying what is one of the best battle rifle platforms out there!
Need a Can on that bad boy, along with loosing the "Scout" optic. Instead, a Saldac receiver Mount and conventional LPVO optic would be the schiznit!

I really love my M-21 clone ( modern DMR version of the M-14) but, I am married to the FN/FAL ( which one could argue all day long over ) which is better over all!

The Para FAL with folding stock and 18 inch barrel will set you back about the same as the SOCOM Scout M-1A, but comes in nearly 11 inches shorter when folded, and can still shoot when folded! Add a good Can and an Optic your golden!

Folks get all worked up over which is better, and always complain about the FAL being longer, despite having the same barrel length! Note just how short the Para folder is, even with suppressor, it's still nearly 11 inches shorter then the SOCOM and nearly 14 inches shorter then an M-1A! Note the difference in the two folders, both have nearly identical barrel lengths, the shorty has a shorter gas piston is really the only difference, the suppressors is a hybrid Reflex/Maxim for maximum effect with out a bunch of additional weight. That one usually runs an ACOG MK-4 Marine 7.62x51 Retical! The full length Para folder is the exact same length as the Ha&K G-3 full length, but some in at 3 inches shorter then the G-3 because of how the stock folds, vs the G-3 collapsing stock system!

My Gratuitous M-21 photo, just to make y'all drool over such cool! Running an old school Sionics suppressor for that way cool old school look and function!

There's no doubt it's an impressive rifle (M1A), but for me it's just too heavy. [winkthumb]
Damn fine piece of weaponry, though.

Grand Dad would have called you a pussy and told you to suck it up and keep marching! He was a 5 foot 5. 135 pound sack of piss and venom and he packed an M-1 Garand all across Europe to kill Nazis, and always said he wouldn't have traded that rifle for anything!

My own experiences, that rifle is a damn fine weapon to have when shits flying down range both ways, you train with it, you learn to love it and depend on it, and you fight like hell to keep it! Weight never enters the equation, that rifle becomes like a lover to you, you cannot live or even breath with out it in your hands, you and that rifle becomes ONE, a deadly machine with one deadly purpose! You learn to dance the most epic and erotic dance with that rifle, an experience you cannot ever replicate in any other time or place then in those moments, moments that define the rest of your life!

That's not the same rifle. I've handled it, it's damn heavy. Grand Dad was no stronger, he was just limited. We've got much lighter rifles which means a soldier can ruck longer, move quicker, and not be overburdened. And don't forget, the M14 design is fantastic, it's the modern SOCOM M1A configuration I'm talking about with its weight. I've used the M14 in combat as well as the M16 variants. Sorry to disappoint your grandad, but the M14 doesn't add up with modern warfare constraints. It's still a very dependable rifle. I believe the original M1A was a little heavier, about 1 lb. difference, with the latest model coming in just under 9 lbs. (SOCOM) - (also want to add that a fully loaded M1 Garand is around 11+ lbs.) I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that's at least 3 lbs. heavier to 5 lbs. heavier than I like for a scout rifle. Opinions will vary, I will admit some folks like what they like and I won't fault that. Just don't expect me to follow your opinion.

This is why I often stray from all the gun related topics and experts. Opinions should not interfere with the overall discussion. If weight is not your qualifier, go with a heavy rifle. I won't fault you one bit unless you are under my command.

I always wanted a SOCOM, but they were too spendy and too heavy for me. I built a Mosin-Nagant with an 18" barrel and scout scope. It was a favorite until I built an M5 with an 18" barrel and everything light I could find. Humping a ruck and 10-12 lbs of rifle with ammo is a masochistic pleasure I no longer enjoy. These days it's 100 rds total loadout in 20 rnd mags. When mucking about it's just 1 20 rnd. Daddy always said it was a young mans game.

I've had a FAL or two, a CETME, a PTR, and an H&K. I finally stuck with my M5. I used Aero Precision parts and got the forend as light as possible to keep the weight closer to the shoulder. I still haven't decided on the glass yet.
