hello everyone i am new here looking to go off grid. why did you all go off grid??? also i am thinking about wyoming thoughts and inputs on that. i will be constructing a 500 sq ft home
Welcome from coastal North Carolina. I didn't leave the grid, but the grid sometimes leaves me during hurricanes and ice storms. Appliances break, I like to be able to see at night and I enjoy hot coffee and cooked meals. For these times I started practicing with Coleman lanterns and stoves. I think I have the situation pretty well covered now. I've been gravitating toward butane as my short-term emergency fuel. It's easiest and safest, and all my butane appliances have automatic ignition. The American Camper lantern is dual fuel and can run on propane with an adapter. I've got chargers and inverters in all my cars to keep the phone and computers up. That's about as off-grid as I care to get. Isn't Wyoming where they've recorded snow in every county in every month of the year? I'll just have to suffer with switching from heat to A/C in the winter here at the beach.
Welcome from Coastal SC. On grid but not worried if the grid quits. I had a cousin that moved to Wyoming in 1999 because of Y2K. He moved back to NC shortly after, said it was a tough place.
Some of us are not off grid but have options to be off grid if the grid disappears. We live in a small town in red state. That works for us. We have a BOL in the middle of nowhere but are thinking about selling it and getting a closer location even if we lose acreage.
Hello everyone And thank you for welcoming me aboard!!!! I know i came on here with some insane ideas LOL insane ideas that i would never see my ROI back. wyoming is out of the picture. i have changed my mind on alot of things. i bought a rental property and i'm gonna flip it into an LLC and call the power company and have them come out and install a commerical meter on it so i can sell all of the power the solar produces since i won't be living there. seems like a better investment
i rethought wyoming LOL i would go out of my mind. the incentives to move there are just not worth it. i prefer not to be frozen in winter. trying to find a spot to dig a well will make your mind do mental gymnastics also.
i will be doing a grid tied system in my new property and selling all of the power back to the power company since i won't live there even though my bill would be covered!!!!
