Some of my favorite knives were found in King Tut's grave. Modern science may have given us a few more details on one of those knives origin.

A new origin story for King Tut’s meteorite dagger

They thought enough about him to want to have his finest objects buried with him for use in the after life. The knifes were not placed on a shelf in the tomb, they were in the wrappings on his body so there was no chance of them not being available to him.

Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Russia are sources in the area for Lapis. Thats a fair hop from Egypt.
