Welcome. What part of VA? I'm from SW VA, but lived in NOVA (Reston, Fairfax, Alexandria) for a stint.
I am SE Va on the Chesapeake. SW Va/WV is part of my bug out plan if things on the bay go south. Problem is I gotta go around Richmond to get there. LOL
I do have a boat which is part of my stay home plan which is my first plan. But if a disaster hits the coast line or civil unrest from the North (DC) or the South (Hampton Roads) I will have to bug out to the mountains. Are you around Blacksburg?
Went to college there. I don't live in VA anymore. I would not want to be anywhere near Hampton Roads when the benefits get cut off.
You should read Matthew Bracken's book Enemies Foreign and Domestic. A lot of it takes place in that neck of the piedmont.
Leesburger for two years. Liked it well enough, but too crowded. Left when I retired. A buddy has a place on the upper end of the Rappahanock, about 70 acres of isolation, used to go shoot things on occasion. Very near the Marriot lands.

Hello fellow newbie, I grew up in NOVA and could not wait to get out of there. When it hits the fan I would not want to be anywhere around NOVA.
I went to a dentist there for about 10 years (but, I lived in the next county over). I guess he's retired now.
