As much as I would like to see the NFA go the way of the Dodo bird, it simply will not happen in the foreseeable future. Getting rid of the $200 tax stamp is a start, I would like to see the McClure/Volkmure act amended to allow the manufacturing of full auto small arms for the civilian population.
Personally, I am surprised they are dropping the $200 given we're broke, and it pays for the administration costs of the NFA or a portion of it. I truly doubt we will ever see the complete abolishment of the NFA, major changes perhaps, but never repealed. Why? Automatic weapons. They cannot and will not allow citizens to have them and it doesn't matter your opinion, not in the slightest, or whether it is right or wrong. I do see possible changes coming, like dropping suppressors from the list and maybe, just maybe they drop or relax the Short Barrel Rifles and Short Barrel Shotguns from the list. Personally, I think the SBR requirement is pushing it, especially since the Brace rulings appear to be standing...for now. EDIT: I do not understand how they can justify the restrictions placed for a SBR when the pistol brace seems to have beaten the ATF and NFA. Are you not allowed to put the pistol brace up to your shoulder?
My understanding is that you can shoulder a brace in an emergency. It's the Youtube idiots shouldering them all the time in their videos that rubbed the ATF's face in it that forced them to act. Basically, they said out loud that was previously only in hushed whispers and the ATF could no longer ignore it. It got even worse when that Captain Krill lookalike was placed in charge. Thank God his hiney is out shaving cats (or what ever else he does) and not sitting in the ATF Director's chait any more.

If you live in Texas you can buy a silencer made in Texas over the counter. No NFA, but the silencer must stay in Texas.
