Yes, I have often wondered about as the Constitution Sixth Amendment: "Guarantees the right to a "speedy and public trial" in all criminal prosecutions." However, digging more I found that really isn't the case (below)...and can't say I agree with it especially when it is a clear-cut case and/or the defendant confesses. "...the Supreme Court has clarified it applies before conviction, not strictly after for sentencing delays, though other laws and due process arguments can cover post-conviction delays. The Sixth Amendment guarantees a speedy and public trial, aiming to prevent lengthy pre-trial incarceration, reduce anxiety, and limit defense impairment." Furthermore, it seems that they can even delay trials almost indefinitely if the prosecution is collecting more evidence or etc. and that is BEFORE conviction. It's like everything else in our Constitution...we think it is black and white law, but they have found numerous ways to navigate around it and do exactly how they want. All perfectly legal, of course...
federal court has 99% conviction rate. no supporting testimony allowed. no exculpatory evidence allowed. if your charged, your convicted. fair trial by peers? not so much.
Being a senior citizen myself, I pack wherever I can legally do so. There are some 20 million illegals still on the loose, nut jobs and druggies who never seem to get help, and unruly teens who think putting an old white guy into a coma is funny.
