Hi all, long time lurker first time poster yada yada.

I am a news junkie, dangerously over-educated, highly opinionated, and prone to long boring speeches full of historical details and philosophy. I used to identify as a staunch Liberal but am now a freethinker, which is definitely an improvement. I live in a very liberal city and have mostly liberal friends, which is why I seek places like this. Echo chambers are dangerous things, and the last situation I want to find myself in is being misinformed because I don't have smart people around me who think different and who will challenge me. I doubt that will be a problem here!

I ingest an array of news sources, from Reuters and AP Wireless to CNN and HuffPo to FreeRepublic.com and Breitbart. I listen to Milo and Louder with Crowder, as well as Secular Talk and TYT on Youtube. I disagree with all of them on a lot of things, but they are all smart and make me understand who I am in reaction to what they say. I try to take in as many news sources from as many angles and positions as possible. That being said, The Young Turks sucks now, and Milo has gone off the rails completely. I love who Alex Jones used to be, and indeed Alex was the first person I ever heard that shocked me out of my complacency and "woke me up" with his speech in the movie Waking Life, which makes what he has become now very disappointing. Alas, guess he is only human.

I live in the city but am VERY interested in gardening, which I took up this last year. I have been utterly amazed at how much I love the act of growing my own food and giving it away, and it brings me a peace that I don't normally get to experience much because of my temperament. The act of growing your own food is probably the most revolutionary act we can do short of an actual revolution.

I own a compound bow and am getting better with it. At some point in the future I will own a firearm. I watch videos on Youtube of people refusing to answer questions at those illegal border checkpoints and quoting the Constitution and love them for it. I like it when people recognize that the systems that control our lives are imaginary and can be resisted. I like that very much.

I consider myself a spiritual person but not in any organized way, see: Freethinker. My answer to the question "Do you believe in God" is "I am waiting to." I try to be as open as possible about what is possible, and there is no truth existing that I fear. Well that sounded arrogant, but I got that off of a personality-type website. INTJ if anyone here cares about that stuff.

I'll leave it now to Alex Jones to sum up the rest of me:

"You can't fight city hall. Death and taxes. Don't talk about politics or religion. This is all the equivalent of enemy propaganda rolling across the picket line. Lay down G.I.! Lay down G.I.!

We saw it all through the 20th century, and now, in the 21st century, it's time to stand up and realize that we should not allow ourselves to be crammed into this rat maze. We should not submit to de-humanization.

I don't know about you, but I'm concerned with what's happening in this world. I'm concerned with the structure. I'm concerned with the systems of control: those that control my life, and those that seek to control it even more. I want freedom, that's what I want! And that's what you should want! It's up to each and every one of us to turn loose and just suck up the greed, the hatred, the envy, and yes, the insecurities, because that is the central mode of control; Make us feel pathetic, small, so we'll willingly give up our sovereignty, our liberty, our destiny. We have got to realize that we're being conditioned on a mass scale. Start challenging this corporate slave-state!

The 21st century is going to be a new century, not the century of slavery, not the century of lies and issues of no significance, and classism and statism, and all the rest of the modes of control! It's going to be the age of humankind standing up for something pure, and something right. What a bunch of garbage: liberal, democrat, conservative, republican. It's all there to control you! Two sides of the same coin. Two management teams bidding for control, the CEO job, of Slavery Inc.!

The truth is out there in front of you, but they lay out this buffet of lies. I'm sick of it and I'm not going to take a bite out of it, do you got me?! Resistance is not futile, we're gonna win this thing, humankind is too good, we're not a bunch of under-achievers! We're gonna stand up, and we're gonna be human beings. We're going to get fired up about the real things, the things that matter: creativity and the dynamic human spirit that refuses to submit. Well, that's it, that's all I got to say. The ball's in your court."

Welcome to the Monkey @MonaLisaOverdrive glad you stopped lurking and decided to join. You sound very much like a Canadian I know or maybe it is just a Canadian thing. When you say liberal is that an American liberal or a Canadian liberal because there is a difference.

It might just be a Canadian thing, or perhaps not ;)

I mean Liberal in the sense of identifying with the standard Liberal positions, both social and political. I don't identify with any position anymore other than that of a Freethinker.

What's the difference between Canadian Libs and American ones? I know Canadian conservatives are closer to the American Libertarians than to American Conservatives, but I think that is because Canada is a socialist country and we generally lean a little more left than the US.

Heh, Canada is the place that every disgruntled American talks about going to. They talked about it when Bush got in, when Obama got in, and no matter who wins this year, there will be those who say they will come to Canada. They never do, though.

LOL I highly doubt that @Cruisin Sloth will be talking to me. We established pretty quickly that we don't get along at all and it isn't reconcilable. @Mindgrinder COULD help, but we will probably be too busy arguing about politics. Wouldn't have it any other way :D

TL;DR version is I am a political and philosophical free agent from Canada who doesn't identify with the Left or Right anymore. I simply identify with whatever is most truthful....and I have cats and a garden :)
