The original Parkers Barbeque, since 1946. I was impressed. White waiters with white paper hats, white shirts and white aprons. Sweet tea with crushed ice, fast service, and delicious food in generous portions on real plates and bowls with real silverware. Parkers is cash only, and they'll never be worried by change, since everything seems to work out to even dollars. Take out pick-up is around back, as are the rest rooms. They look like they haven't been renovated since the forties. They're well ventilated and match the outside temperature. I'll make a stop at Kings in Kinston on the way home and see how it compares... but I have a bias, since I've been eating there for forty years. Notice there's no apostrophe in Parkers or Kings. I learned in the 1979 that in Eastern North Carolina an apostrophe, like in Pal's Hardware, becomes "Pal S Hardware" when you ask a local where to get some plumbing supplies. Took me forever to find Pal's in the white pages, because I was looking for "Palace Hardware." Good times.
