Several years ago, after getting my firearms permit, I bought my first gun, the Sig P320. Well, as you may have heard, there were one or two problems with that. Since I doubt I could sell it anywhere, I'm just keeping it at home as back-up. Meanwhile, I've been doing a lot of research regarding a new EDC gun, and have decided to purchase the Ruger American pistol in the compact .45acp variant. If any of you have experience with this pistol I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts. Or if there is another make/model of compact .45acp you like better, tell me about it.
Keep the sig p320 with a mag in and no round in the chamber so it doesn't give you a surprise pop. I'd buy a sigp p320 if the price was right.
Did Sig ever admit and/or resolve that issue? I would really like to have the p365 XMacro but the price tag gives me shivers. I haven't gotten interested enough to see if the p320 problems transfer over to the p365 - do they? Currently, I stopped carrying every day as live in North Idaho in the country where people have common sense and good manners...and they know what happens if they don't. However, I do carry if I go South and/or to larger cities, then I carry a G19 Glock or, at a minimum, a G43. Both are 9mm and are reliable which is foremost in my mind. The G19 holds 15 while the G43 holds 8 with the mag extension. They do the job, are reliable and are easy to maintain so I really don't have a valid reason to spend the money for the p365 Xmacro, certainly not what they are asking for it which around here is about $800.
im pretty sure the army guys who claimed a un-commanded p320 discharge have admitted he accidentally shot the guy. they were both charged. i dont know about the p365. i carry a rugar sr40c back up and g-35 main gun , great gun. i am 3dp a frame for the sr40c then it will use glock mags too.
Thanks for the replies, guys. Yes, I know that when one of the two cases involving an accidental death supposedly caused by the P320's bump firing problem went to court, and the plaintiff had to prove that the gun had this inherent flaw, they couldn't, and the case was thrown out. I did notice there is now a new version of the P320. But today I went to the gun store to buy a Ruger American compact .45 acp, as mentioned previously, and learned that this is one of a number of models Ruger has discontinued. I then got into a detailed discussion with the clerk there, who was knowledgeable, and ended up happily buying a Sig P220 Legion. I am excited about this. Should be in in about a week.
I don't run anything compact and always opted for the longer 4"-4.5" barrel handguns, but Ruger does make the same called a "duty" which is a 4.5" and that looks spicy. I prefer everything Springfield and my carry is an XDS .45 with the 4 inch barrel and have a clip instead of a holster. Back in the day, I often tested the Makarov and ran that for a while, but that's a fixed barrel and I got pretty good with it. The weight was a bit much, though. I see why people like the compact firearms, but I just don't like those short barrels. Let us know how it performs for you!
