Last month i purchased a new s&w m&p 2.0 10mm 4" pistol. Always wanted a 10mm, always been a glock guy but figured what the heck smiths got a good reputation. First magazine i get a FTF, no biggie i thought. Got home and decided to read up on the gun and it seems a ton of people have FTF issues. Most reccomend a heavier recoil spring so i tried that. Same issue a FTF on the next magazine. More research and they say mag springs. Got those on order so will see what happens. Smith and wesson said its most likely an ammo issue because they didnt design it for "bear loads". They sure advertise it as bear defence online though. I had issues with factory 180 grain fmj amd hornady home defence rounds. Anyway i just figured i would get on here and rant. Pretty good paperweight for 650 bucks! Again, sorry for the rant.
My cheap taurus has several hundred rounds, not 1 issue at all, even during break in. I understand where you are coming from though. Lot of complaints about it online just have me paranoid.
Reading up on this FTF issue on AR-15.com it looks like a combination of weak magazine springs and an extractor that inhibits feeding. I'd like to study up more on why a factory S&W is so problematic, but I'm not so curious that I'd want to go buy one. Hopefully S&W will learn from the online chatter and make some changes.
Yea, wish i would have done reasearch. I usually do. Got mag springs on the way. If issue continues will do extractor.
I have an M&P40 that when brand new had a couple FTF issues with Hornady rounds. Switched ammo and ran a lot of rounds thru it. Then went back to the Hornady rounds and never had the issue again. She needed to be broke in
Back in the 70s I worked in a gun shop. General rule of thumb then was .... S&W for revolvers, Colt for automatics. I've never owned an S&W autoloader. They make fine revolvers though and I have a couple. Since then of course, a number of other companies have made good autoloaders, Springfield's a good one. There are others. Had a Colt Delta Elite 10mm years ago that worked without a hitch, even with my reloads, using 200 grain FMJ flat points. I recently bought two Springfield autos (different models) both in 9mm and neither has had a problem after several hundred rounds of varying bullet weights and shapes from 115 to 147 gr, different brands, FMJ, hollow points, they eat 'em all. No excuses. I have a Glock .45 that's the same way and a 70 Series Colt Combat Commander .45 that will feed fired cases from the magazine when operating the slide by hand. Might see if a local shop will take a trade-in on another brand. You'll lose some bucks but there's little point in keeping a malfunctioning pistol. Even if it begins to work you'll always wonder if it's going to malfunction when you really need it.
Let me show my ignorance but S&W said, "...out of spec ammunition. +P or 'bear loads'... are they not hotter loads? You have me interested now as I've always wanted a 10mm. S&W makes some fine pistols, good as Glock even better in some ways - yet - cheaper too and I'm a Glock guy.
my info says da M&Ps in .40 S&W n 9x19mm usually werk gud .. .. dey is reel similar ta Glock, aint Glock tho .. .. da 10mm should werk gud .. .. Sir @Yard Dart is right she might need a workout before ya can use Hornady
In my one screenshot of their webside advertisement it clearly says " bears and cougars dont stand a chance". They sure advertise it for woods carry, but when the gun has issues they blame the ammo.
My glock 9mm and .40s ran any higher pressure ammo i fed em. Even short on power 9mm was fine. I bought a 10mm for woods carry, most factory stuff is in the .40 ballistics category, but i would think a quality gun would eat anything you wanted to use.
when i loaded .40 i went with the most accurate load and that was in the middle of the ladder. could have done 7.1 grn and did 6.6 instead. no case bell on my glock at this load, hotter not always better. of course at bad breath distance group is moot. youl find a load it likes. 1k of 180gr .40 weighs 40 lbs.
If there werent dozens upon dozens of issues online i would not be concerned. However a new gun jamming every mag is a concern to me.
