It is not a perfect system (square foot gardening), but it is a good introduction to backyard gardening for those new to self sufficient gardening. I think that permaculture gardening is a better systematic approach to self sufficient gardening but although the permacuture principles are easy to enumerate it is a more complex and nuanced system to implement.
