I'm hoping the senate adds the Short Act as an amendment. As for the great big beautiful bill in the senate. 50/50 that it makes it through. and then it's either going to reconciliation or to the big guy's desk for signing. Would love to see us get cans and SBRs .. might be the last chance we get for the rest of time.
I will say, that if the Hearing protection act gets passed. Murphy's law says that something bad is going to be bad. Like state laws that will no longer be superceded by federal law ... because there is no federal law anymore and states rights trump no law. I think Michigan bans the possession, sale or manufacture of silencers (along with other items) So, does the state win?
This has definitely been a crazy dance as the last I heard the Hearing Protection Act was keeping the suppressors on the NFA list but you wouldn't have to pay for the tax stamp. Now, I hear, the pure version of the Act was imbedded with the Big, Beautiful Bill... I think the Senate will pass it, throwing us a bone, as suppressors are no big deal. However, no chance on the Short Act, just no chance in hell.
You do realize that cans can be welded onto short barrels same as those stupid long flash suppressors during the so-called "Ass-holed Weapons Ban" from our last run with the Libs? Sixteen inches is sixteen inches, unless they make rulers shorter and a six inch can on a ten inch barrell still meets that stupid requirement, unless you use thtat "new math".
Blue states where you can still have them will make them illegal. Everything they know about guns they get from tv shows or anti-gun groups that get their info from other anti-gun groups. None of them have actually heard a silencer but they are all experts. I keep posing questions to my lefty chums like "If Trump is going to make himself King, than why are you banning the same guns you will need to fight tyranny and have your Socialist revolution?" They always act like they didn't hear anything and simply repeat the latest hysteria about something Trump may or may not have done.
If it passes, I'm with you guys, the states will overstep and ban them, themselves, nothing the lefties love more then to ban gun related stuff, and they will use the whole "it's not a gun argument" like they do with magazines and bump stocks and forced reset triggers and such, but argued against those very same things when they were still illegal, claiming they were a gun! Go figure, either way, they will screw us, about the time we all go out and buy a bunch and think everything is fine, BAM some lefty states will insta-ban them and make us felons again! I lost track of all my felonies, and worse, cannot keep track of which ones are still active and which are on hold, and which I have been found innocent already!
Many years ago, I had a 10-22 with an integral suppressor. It was an early one with leather washers and BBs inside. It was super quiet but a real pain to clean. It got confiscated by a deputy sheriff and I never saw it again. I've never seen that design on any other weapon, anyone ever see one like that?
Most of the one made now have a machined baffle core. One of my shooting buddies has an original Maxim suppressor but I've never seen it taken apart. The 10-22 I had when I was a kid, had a leather disc for a wipe, the barrell was drilled along four sides but the rifling still intact. There was a machined sleeve outer and the space between was filled with BBs. It was a little heavy but quiet as all get-out. Many times, I had shot several squirrels from the same hickory with it and hardly made them duck.
