Retired from 21 years in the Army as an Avenger Master Gunner. Here in WA one of our biggest threats is a LARGE earthquake, The Cascadia. I'm currently a rep for Thrive Life freeze died food, and also working on getting my FFL. I know I'm the FNG, but one thought I have already is having a thread dedicated to each state for easier networking?
    Keep Calm, and Carry on.

Welcome to the Monkey Tree.... Pick out a branch, and have a look around.... Lots of good Information here and plenty of good folks, here'bouts, as well.... Thank You for your Service. Know your country well, (I assume you were mustered out at (JB Lewis/McCord) as I grew up in Western Washington, and spent many a weekend out at my GodFathers Farm, south of Roy, Wa (Up in the Bald Hills area) If you haven't found Stewart's Meat Market over in McKenna, WA you should go check it out. They have the BEST Peperoni, and Jerky in existence. .....

    Welcome!

I grew up around Boston Harbor up the inlet from Olympia in the 60s-70s, worked around the Sound, returned in 1982. Moved to Portland area in 1996.

Good group of folks here on the Monkey.

Well if she starts to venting I will be making plan's to BO.... I am potentially right in the blast zone depending on how it goes, but not in a valley which should avoid any lahar flows. The lahar's are one of the things that made Mt St Helen's such a mess for those outside the immediate blast zone. The debris plugged up the rivers, causing a lot of flooding outside of the normal areas. Many roads outside the blast zone were impassable due to the water and debris.

I think Olympia is fairly safe from Mt Rainier eruption. It is slightly south of east from Olympia and winds are generally from SW, NW or N, so the ash cloud would be blowing away. The mud flows traditionally have gone through Puyallup area to the NE. Might get as close as the Nisqually delta but Lacey-Oly-Tumwater which are south of there have generally not been endangered. Tacoma and Centralia are likely in the most danger on the west side of the Mt. Everything to the East and NE of it would be catching the ash, particularly Yakima through Spokane.

You are exactly correct NWP....I unfortunately am directly North near the "claw" as we call it.

All can say is Thanks a lot!! Judging by the rock formations around Spokane, the ash got deep in the past..
