Dallas salon owner Shelley Luther, who defied orders to keep her business closed during the pandemic, was released from jail today. Luther had been serving a 7-day sentence.

The Texas Supreme Court this morning granted a motion to release her. The court’s order came soon after Gov. Greg Abbott said he was eliminating jail time for Texans who violate stay-at-home restrictions.

Plus, another 247,179 Texans filed for unemployment last week — bringing the total to about 1.8 million in the seven weeks since Abbott declared the pandemic a statewide emergency. The Texas Workforce Commission has relaxed guidelines so high-risk workers and people without child care can refuse work and still receive benefits as businesses reopen across the state. But that doesn’t protect these workers from being fired in the meantime.

“7 days in jail, no bail and a $7K fine is outrageous. No surprise Texans are responding. I’m covering the $7K fine she had to pay and I volunteer to be placed under House Arrest so she can go to work and feed her kids,” Patrick tweeted Wednesday.

The lady with the hair salon and 18 contract employees “did us all proud” in Texas. I think the name of her place is called Salon a’ la Mode.

Shelley Luther had a Col. William B. Travis / Alamo moment when she stood tall, drawing a symbolic line in the “sand” in front of that judge who told her to “apologize for being selfish” OR face the wrath of his contempt of court order.

She respectfully refused to bend the knee and kiss the ring. Shades of William Wallace (Mel Gibson) in the movie Braveheart…. When I saw the video of Shelley Luther speaking to the judge for the first time, I thought to myself I don’t know where she is from originally, but that’s a Texas Gal right there!

A moment later I thought, I don’t know where that Judge Moye’ is from originally, but I can tell from the videos of him with the vindictive look in his eye that he may live in the south, but his heart does not. He gets his thinking from progressive, socialist, statist, autocrat democrats, and will never waste an opportunity to push down hard if he ever gets his boot on a patriotic or conservative American’s neck.

I hear that Judge Moye’ is up for election this November, and that his republican opponent for that judgeship is a woman. Hmm. Do ya think she’ll have an extra strong plank in her platform when she talks about her opponent putting a woman in jail for trying to earn money to feed her children?

I’m no University of Texas fan, but I spent a few years living in Austin back in my USAF days, so it’s fitting to say to that judge, “The eyes of Texas are upon you…..”
