Very cool, easy to use and free/opensource I downloaded the zip last night and so did a few of my friends. We have been sending encrypted email and PMs today. Simple, simple, simple Download the zip, run the .exe and then you just create your text in anything, email, notepad, text file... doesn't matter. They must decrypt with the same Pass. It will instantly show the text.... Good tips for snooping times. It's really not even a 'paranoid' thing anymore. After the War on Terrorism and the Patriot Act, It's common knowledge that all our ISPs have 'black boxes' on them that record everything we send. OUr email goes through 3 to 15 different relays before we get it and each one archives a copy. Cellular one has said publically that they record every call and Voice mail 'just in case' We are being flagged for keywords by echelon. Used to be called carnivore but they changed the name after it went public. This isn't just conspiracy talk anymore. They admit it and do it. I bet every single email from the Microsoft Corporation to the Treasury Department and any other Forutne 500 or .gov agency encrypts every emal they send... too many Corp CEOs got burned from there emails... where did they get those, Subpeona of the ISP. I bet if your lawyer asked your cell provider for Voice mail files becasue of a pending divorce, they'd have them. Remember, a delete of a file on your pc only strips off the first letter so your system doesn't see it anymore. A word file called melbo.doc, becomes $elbo.$oc... still there and that's why Norton can recover it. this is a perfect segway into my next tech topic..... HD scrubbing
Actually not all government agencies encrypt their email messages - sorry melbo the VA is just too cheap to do it.

OK, after you download the program, unzip and run the .exe. I got some errors but it doesn't matter, hit OK enough and you'll get to the meat of the program. Maybe those errors are to thwart efforts... after you run the app, you will see this in your task bar
Copy and paste it into notepad and right click on the ying yang in your tray and select 'encrypt' Enter a Password that both you and the recipient know
Copy and paste the 'garbage' into email, PM, post, etc and the recipient will do the same staps as above, only hitting de-crypt instead of encrypt... Very easy and pretty good using rjindael AES 256 encryption
Part of the problem is traffic between web clients and the forum server go over the internet in plain text. Forcing all clients to use https instead of http will prevent man-in-the-middle snooping (though at the cost of some computational overhead for the server). I did try for giggles to see if the forum would accept https connections and it doesn't appear to be configured for this.

I was also going to say that for email there is an extention you can install in Thunderbird called Enigmail. You have to install GnuPG on your PC first, no biggie there, create your key pair and you are set. Download and install Enigmail into T-bird and you are done. To encrypt or sign your email you simply select Encrypt, then when you hit send your text is encrypted and you are done. It's pretty neat and easy to do. Ryan
Been using PGP for years. But I think they can crack anything that is in public domain if they want. https:// needs a cert to use. I have a link somewhere to a place where you can get a FREE Cert, instead of paying Verisign. Bill St Clarie at www.endthewaronfreedom.com , could give you better advice on the free Cret. Back to encryption, we have been using a piece of software that imbeds text into a .bmp without expanding the file one byte like some of the older programs. AE
