The Internet as an information storage device.

We all know of the long term storage of information on the net. Sites vanish or sections of them are taken down by the owners. Now we are face the censoring of the net . Does that 404 mean the site is gone or does it mean "they" don't want you to read it.

If the hyperlink carries you to an error page, you have just been anti-gaslit

    Or the intern fucked up.
404 means not found. The page could have been moved and your bookmark is old, website update hasn't propagated yet across their servers. Bad site design (broken whether by accident or defacement). Or a third party (like a news site or hell even something someone sends to you in an email or text) has provided a bad or old link.
Metric shit ton of reasons a link might give you a 404 .. More than likely .. not nefarious reason, it's just that Teshawn isn't going to make it the full internship.

That is the whole point. We now and always have had no way to know what is in the internet. It always has been what ever we or they make it. As long as we can post dissent, right or left, some thought can exist. If it becomes totally controlled, then we become controlled. In many cases this has already happened. Try questioning the Koran or passing out Bibles in many countries in this world. We have reached the point in our quest for information that the source in many cases determines the conclusions. When the number one story on one of the MSM networks isn't even mentioned on another, then your choice of information sites determined your knowledge base and in many cases the actions you take. I know several people that are now convinced that the attempts on Trump life were fake and that he is guilty of rape and got away with it.

The EU is about gone and we are not far behind. Much of the world, Communist, Muslim, tribal states with no real government, no longer have a free citizenship, you toe the official line, whatever it be today or suffer the consequences. It was going some what the other way in the late 40's or so after WW2, but freedom has been losing ever since. Now in Great Britain you can be punished for the wrong think of being a citizen and having a picture on the internet of you shooting a firearm in Texas or being arrested and convicted of using a bad word toward a member of the protected class in a private conservation in a private text.

    Comments for: Europe Is Dying

This is of course my view of things and the same argument using your selected sources will reach a totally different conclusion. The belief in climate change is often cited as the most dependent on the selection of your source material. While the fact that many political beliefs may in fact control our reality to a much greater effect.

Well, I believe Europe really is at the critical point, the crux, if it even continues to exist in the future in the form of its old self. I use to think it was a coin toss if Europe survived but now, I think it is even less. A few Eastern Europe countries as holding strong for their country but it's the damn European Union that is the problem. Get rid of it and let the countries be sovereign nations again and they might have a chance but...it's not looking good, so much so, that the US is pulling farther and farther away from them.

As far as what information is on the internet, it really has been that way from the beginning. Some good info, some bad, some ridiculous... I do think we are seeing more government involvement of what information is out there and not just from totalitarian governments, specifically European Union ones. America supposedly is fighting censorship but...I have a wait and see mentally on this.

The bottom-line problem for the European Union is mass illegal and legal immigration which is causing them to double down on hate speech or anything that can be even close to it. The people of Europe need to get into the streets and demand the policy be reversed or else they are as guilty as their leaders.

unfortunately, they can't index the entire internet hourly, daily, weekly or monthly.
Right now we are producing about 420 billion gigabytes of new internet content each day. Way more than any single service could catalog. And that is only on the public web. There are many multiples of that being created inside corporate networks during the same time frame.

And as AI arrives to create content both written fictions and images plus video ... Good luck trying to discern between AI and reality.

    Your favorite TicToker isn't real.
Your favorite podcaster is like 50/50
And none of the politicians have your best interests in mind.
Hell, Melissa the drunk at the end of the bar might be the only real person you talk to this weekend. Well, at least you know where the conversation is going and what the game is.

    Wayback Machine

You can ask it to index / save a current page for historical reference. Kinda convenient.
I donated 250 USD several years ago, in hopes that they'd actually keep going.

This is a topic at work. Corporate wants us to upload all of our archived news to AMS on the cloud, who of course charges to store it and then charges to access it. We are making two copies of everything and storing it on terabyte SSDs one on site and one off. We got through a hack several years back and there are things that are gone forever from that. Even if storing things on the internet were safe, what if you have no internet? Nothing in digital form is safe, and I think in a few hundred years the archeologists will have a name for our period when all the data was lost because we put it all "out there".

I use 12 terabyte helium filled hdd’s. Four in number, my media is in the form of 1080p/4k video’s and movies downloaded from various sites including YouTube. I mainly use 4k Video downloader for this. One note on YouTube, Google is now heavily regulating and demonetizing the entire YouTube platform to increase its profits at the cost of everyone else. Google has be coming down hard on gun/shooting friendly channels to the point that Google is now withholding all add revenue from these channels. The same goes for other content that goes against the leftest narrative. Other forms of media include FLAC files(don’t get me started on my personal cd collection, 5000+), PDF files, screen shots of web pages that no longer exist.
I have each had backed up on a monthly or bimonthly basis. Each hdd is stored in a Harbor Freight Pelican copy case. Each case in turn is stored in a military 20mm ammo can. I also have tablets, laptops, and a couple of older pc’s stored in this manner for emp/cme protection.
I do see the day fast approaching that the internet as we know it will no longer exist unless something happens that will truly destroy the deep state/bureaucracy and the commmunist backers of this multi headed hydra. Collect your knowledge now, protect it, and safe guard it. Use older machines to access this knowledge for future use and keep these older machines off the internet where they can be compromised.

Since SSDs came out, I wouldn't store anything on a platter disk anymore.

Everyone is scared of nukes, but they are outdated. Destroying a few data centers or hubs like Atlanta or Falls Church would cripple this country without a lot of effort. It seems like every damn thing relies on internet access to run anymore, and not just data.

Also: Cloud storage will become the main place accessible because it will permit instant information exchange. Just be aware of who is in charge of maintaining all of it. Personal devices will become obsolete, replaced by implants. We will see more wearable items like Google Glasses in the meantime. Once they fully figure out the bottleneck issue between human brain and tech, it will move quickly.

All of this has the potential to do great things. Naturally, this iteration of humanity is doomed so it's not likely to turn out very well. From net neutrality to freedom of information exchange will all go the way of the dodo because power corrupts absolutely. And to think, this all started with simple computers and now we see every chubby fingered moron with a "smartphone" instantly linked to the AI collective paradise from beyond.

Attention is about control. This is why they use the one-eye symbol. Keeping people dumb involves keeping them blind as well. Since only certain knowledge has power it is quite literally a trivial thing to deceive the masses (with loads of crap no less). Then you have music, mainly rap which is used to teach people to be fooled by their own words. More of the same trivial nonsense. Knowledge is power but you need to understand what the difference is so as not to be fooled. The eye's are actually way more powerful than one can imagine and that in and of itself is true power. I used to tell my friend facebook was dangerous but he never listened. He was to busy being fooled.
