Have to put away a lot more ammo to feed those.. Then again, work at those machining skills..

Yes and no. A person doesn't always have to set the selector to "rock n roll" Most of the time it's just another Semi auto. Not really any different than that new 750 hp vette. After awhile the new wears off and you just drive it within the speed limits. Even belt feds are best fired in bursts. Extended full auto fire is hard on barrels, ect. Everything in moderation ;)

Yep, if I remember correctly, some machine guns had three barrels (or more)in the field, to be swapped out as they tended to melt. (From what I've read)

IIRC the MG34 gunners were told no more than 250 rounds sustained fire at a time. barrel changes on the 34 and the 42 can be done in seconds.:sneaky:

How many Barrels does a M60E1 Gunner need to carry for a firefight? Ask any Ground Humper, they will know right off.....

Yeah full auto is fun (always wear the baggy pants when shooting them!) they are just a fun way to turn money into noise. Hard to handle with out a HUGE amount of training/ammo (as in Uncle Sugar paying for both) they are not that useful really. Try any full auto standing on your hind legs at say 50 yards on a human sized target. First shot dead center, second high left, third shot miss. .30 M1 Carbine, M-16, Thompson, etc. Sure you get better with practice, but it still takes a LOT of money to learn to shoot well!
