To make biochar, you need charcoal.

    and most charcoal reactors/retorts use trash wood for heat in the pyrolysis. . What if you don't have a lot of wood, past the lot to be turned into charcoal?

    Why, burn old oil, cooking or motor.

    Once you have your charcoal, you can than start to inoculate it - prior to going into the garden.

    charcoal reduces the small from barnyard waste.......

    I use 'wet' stable manure and enough water to make the entire lot almost liquid. It then goes into the compost stack. The time to plan for Spring is now.

    To use biochar you need land and time. Maybe now is the time to get out and get the land if you haven't done so yet. A day early just wastes a day. A day late and you may be dead. Looks like a hard rain a coming,

    I've read that willow wood makes the best gunpowder? Never attempted to make any charcoal but?

    Willow will be my choice. Easy to work and it grows right back

    Willow's ideal for gunpowder—high carbon, burns clean. Give it a shot.
