At the moment, momentum (mass X velocity) is overcoming inertia.....The Titanic didn't hit the sea bed where it struck the iceberg....but it landed quite a few miles further on, leaving a trail of wreckage and flotsam in its wake. The Roman Empire didn't disintegrate in a single life time, nor as a result of the decisions / actions of a single emperor....but it did crumble in a succession of lifetimes, and as a result of changing social, economic and political forces within, and without it.

How long the USA keeps its presently preeminent place in the global political landscape will depend quite a bit on its capacity for damage control and resilience. I am not convinced that the present Imperator is helping very much.

As long as the liberal infestation is kept at bay, America will remain the best country ever, and the most powerful. The give away programs to other countries (buying friends?) and support of the whole world has taken it's toll. It has exceeded mere political posturing and become an internal war of lifestyles. For too many years, government has listened to the loudest, not the majority. It began with civil rights ballooning into 12% of the population being almost untouchable, to the soccer moms of the eighties and nineties and now the snowflake offspring causing public policy changes simply because they are loud, not right. It is easy for those in other countries to only see Trump as a loud mouth "imperator" while not having been here to see the damage the other side has caused. It's easy to see Trump as an idiot without recognizing that he is mostly right when viewed in the context of what America was, before the softening that started in the '60s. No one from another land can fully understand why Trump was elected without living here for the past thirty years. He was elected because the mostly silent majority has had enough of politically correct, enough of giving away our gold to foreign countries, enough coddling the weaklings who get their feeling hurt because someone won't let their daughter on the boys wrestling team, and enough of foreigners and the U.N. telling us what to do. Trump represents that idealism and would have been far more successful in the almost year he has been in office without the "good 'ol boys" who are lifetime politicians tossing barriers in the way of his every move.

I love you Chell. You can bring out a rant in me at will.

Voted for Trump for 3 reasons #1 He is not Hillary. #2. Guaranteed Supreme Court Seat pick. #3. High probability of a second supreme court pick, almost guaranteed if he gets a second term. Just don't see Ginsburg being able to go the distance. Of the three branches the SCOTUS is really all we have left that resembles the Government laid out by the founding fathers (Note I said Resembles). Short of a all out civil war and purge of the current system and a return to a Government that does not take the Constitution as a advisory document instead of the law of the land, we are screwed in the long run. But yeah Trump is a Joke, but he is a Joke with a likely 2nd supreme court pick.

I am pleased to have been of therapeutic service, Temp. I hope you are feeling the better for it. (y)

Sometimes there is something to be said for someone outside the bubble to observe the goings on, inside the bubble. TRump's greatest political skill has been to plumb the fears and anxieties of Americans, and direct them against the sources of those fears and anxieties, whether real or imagined. His appeal to populism may have gotten him elected, in what was a close run contest, but whether it will see him re-elected, is a matter of conjecture. Much will depend on what TRUMP does in the mean time, and the quality of potential Democrat contestants to be fielded against him.

The cracks in the TRump facade are already showing, with an uptick of dissatisfaction with the TRump administration. Poll: Trump approval rating drops to lowest of presidency

Recent Gubernatorial contests in Virginia and New Jersey may be indicative of further dissatisfaction with the TRump administration as time goes by. Tuesday's Democratic Wins Caused by Trump / Exit polls: This was a message to Trump

Good replies. Trumps talk about upholding the second amendment, Being able to nominate a supreme court justice. His positive talk and love country are a welcome change. I would like to see a national debate about where the country is headed. So many very strange socialist/communist thinking folks out there! People who think the gov. is the answer to problems have never served in the military or worked for the gov. Our military is great because of the people in it.Not because of the gov. same thing with the economy.
Make some popcorn and watch the drama unfold as Trump pisses everyone off. even the old turds in his own party that brought us to where we are at.

Oh, come on.....Paul Ryan is only 47 There is a significant contingent of young Republican turds to offend also. That TRump is at war with the party that endorsed his candidacy, and they, to some extent with him, is no surprise. TRump could not have won with the support of traditional/institutional/ised GOP voters alone....he desperately needed the support of the disillusioned, dissatisfied, and disenfranchised whom the Dems and the GOP have largely ignored. TRump, giving the Dems, and the Republican establishment considerable stick, has paid him substantial electoral dividends, and there's not much incentive to change that. The dilemma for the GOP is to continue to endorse a polecat that keeps biting the hand that nourishes it, or take the chance of a humiliating defeat by supporting an establishment GOP candidate against the great panjandrum, TRump

TRump has gamed a strong protest vote campaign to win his Presidency, but I have to wonder whether he can successfully pull that rabbit out of the hat a second time. He will, after all, have an actual track record as President against which voters can evaluate; and at present, that record is rather patchy. He has promised the world to the disaffected, but he has actually delivered very little, other than petty sniping at his opponents from his TWITter führer bunker.

I was always told people vote with their pocketbook. The economy seems to be doing well.If health care could be changed for the better it would help Trump.I wonder if he would run for a second term. I don't like Ryan much.

This short sentence fragment reminded me of something. That is, how childish people can be, by calling our President names.

Furthermore, when someone likens the President to one of the most evil pieces of shite in World History, it really shows what kind of person they are, more than how they attempt to make him appear. Not to mention, it shows how ignorant they obviously are, of World History.

Like it or not people, he is our President. He will not be impeached. He will not be forced to resign from office. He will serve as our President until his term is finished, at which time I do hope he runs for a second term.

Ahhhhh. I am so truly happy to see, how much of a rise he gets from his detractors around the Globe. It is the butter on my popcorn.

    Popcorn-Box.
Mr. President, I hope you piss off even more anti-Trump people around the world, today. You have my full support, sir.

I never did see Trump saying that. The hate I see for Trump seems a bit overdone. I didn't like Obama from the start.I saw how little experience he had and how he voted.Plus I don't agree with Democrat thinking. I did give Obama the benefit of doubt and hoped he would do well.None of the presidents in my lifetime destroyed the country and I don't see Trump doing it either. I remember the talk about how Obama would have the most transparent administration ever. Then all we had was closed-door meeting and few press conferences. Trump talks his head off.To the point where he needs to stop tweeting. He is his own worst enemy at times.
I still believe in living as though there is no gov./nanny state to cover your ass.If anything the gov. well screw everything up and let you down. I laugh at anyone who believes the govt should run healthcare. I think the country needs a serious debate about what kind of country and thinking best serves the people. I would go with Libertarian thinking.

I am sure that there are many who would prefer SCOTUS judges who believe they can channel the spirits of the 'Founders' to 'interpret' the original intentions of the constitution; a Constitution set in stone, like many 10 Commandments tablets.

Until relatively recent times...."unborn baby murder", aka pregnancy termination, wasn't the rallying issue for some religious conservatives as it is now. The Real Origins of the Religious Right / When Being Pro-Life Did Not Mean Being Conservative I suspect that religious conservatives are more concerned about controlling women's reproductive choices, than whether or not an aggregation of human tissue cells are allowed to continue on, to become a viable foetus. I like the way that the emotive term "baby murder" is used indiscriminately: Since when did preventing the implantation of cells into the uterus wall, constitute "unborn baby
    murder" ?

2A, well that's a sacred cow that will never be allowed to die....regardless of who is on the SCOTUS panel.

I am quite happy you are in Oz, and that you have no voting rights in the US.

I have stated, many times in the past, many of those who are foreign to America, have no clue regarding why, or how we truly feel about the rights and freedoms granted to us, as American Citizens, by our Constitution. (I wonder why anyone who appears to be anti-gun, perhaps a bit anti-American, or at least anti-citizens' rights, would even be on this type of forum?) While the citizens of many countries around the world are happy letting their governments dictate what rights they are to have, we, as Americans, are not. Fortunately for us, our founding fathers foresaw much of what many people do not, in today's world.

Unlike you, Americans would not so easily manipulated into giving up the majority of their weapons. In fact, the harder those jerks try, the more we will resist. I never had the honor of serving. But, you can bet your bottom dollar that I am definitely willing to fight to continue to defend the US Constitution (and certainly my country), against all enemies, both foreign and domestic.

Apparently, you are also happy with people being able to decide if an unborn baby is murdered. I for one, am not. It has nothing to do with my political affiliation. It does, however, have everything to do with the way I was brought up in my childhood home. It also may be HER body. But, in HER body, she carries a life. She does NOT have the right to murder that child. Depending on the circumstances, she could give the child up for adoption. MANY of us in this world, can love anyone's child, not only our own.

In fact, today, a precious little boy would not be in this world, had I simply given in to a request by an ex-girlfriend in the Philippines. She came to me, asking for me to pay for an abortion. (No, it was not my child, as I had a vasectomy many years ago.) I informed her I would not pay for an abortion. I would not murder a child, and certainly not an unborn child at that.

I, however, told her that I would pay for all of her prenatal care, I would pay for the birth of the child, and I would pay to support the little guy. (We didn't know the sex of the child at that time.) Fortunately, she agreed to give him my family name. So, I put my name on his birth papers as his blood father. I also named the little guy. (She offered that, if the baby were a girl, she would name her. If it were a boy, I would name him. Fair enough.) Quinn will celebrate his sixth birthday on Christmas Day, this year. He is my son. Maybe he isn't by blood. But, he danged sure is by love.

    quinn.

How could anyone imagine killing an innocent, unborn child? It is beyond me.

Oh, today, I couldn't take that little guy from her arms if I wanted to. She has grown to love him more than life itself. She didn't know she was pro-life, until she had him and saw what she would have been missing.

To ANYONE who is pro-abortion: Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Because this is a survival forum and the focus of the forum is how to prepare oneself for emergency. Survival an important topic but occasionally we get sprinkles of politics thrown in to discuss. Personally if someone can bring knowledge to the forum on how to get better prepared then I really could care less about their politics.

Not sure how it is taking away anyone's rights if a woman chooses to have an abortion. IMO abortion is one of those topics that people feel very passionate about and things tend to get real ugly when opposing side discuss it. It will not feed my family. It will not provide security or keep us safe. But for some reason people say freedom then want politicians to dictate what I can and cannot do with my body.

I can only agree with part of what you have said. However, by quoting a previous post and then calling Trump voters idiots you are treading on a thin line close to if not crossing to the wrong side of the SM code of conduct. That said I will say I agree from the view point of the vast majority of the voters are ignorant of the issues, the constitution, their chosen party platform, and much much more. Spelling or speaking English is not even a requirement to vote. Voters can have a translator present or a ballot in a language they understand in many states. BTW, I did vote for Trump, although he was not my chosen candidate in the race to party nomination. It seems pretty obvious you sir, did not vote for Trump. Please tell me that at least you did not vote for Hillary. If you did vote for Hillary, please tell me why? I voted in the end for Trump because he was NOT Hillary, and was a wild card not supported by the established DO NOTHING OLD GOP. Have a good day sir.

I will say this, then I will leave this topic be.

A woman's body? Sure, she should be able to do what she wishes with it. However, when another life is inside that body, she needs to consider that, before deciding to have an abortion.
