Simple answer...nothing. (first answer posted via a tablet while bicycling - on a stationary bicycle) What is that old saw Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear (or see on TV/web/in newspapers) Source of this quote - well before the current wave of Fake NEws.- The short story “The System of Dr. Tarr and Prof. Fether” by Edgar Allan Poe appeared in the November 1845 issue of “Graham’s Magazine”. The tale was set in a private hospital for the mentally ill, and the adage was spoken by the nominal head of the institution. “You are young yet, my friend,” replied my host, “but the time will arrive when you will learn to judge for yourself of what is going on in the world, without trusting to the gossip of others. Believe nothing you hear, and only one half that you see. EA Poe - the dude was all that even back then.
Algorithms can also be your friend in the real world as well as the internet. Recently I received a email, by using a Algorithm I could access the real or worthless value of the text. In this it was easy to spot the work of a troll. The opening was the usual misdirection of a troll wanting to change direction and misdirect the post's subject matter. The middle was the usual oh so sweet compliment this to sweeten the end to come. The last was the general troll style of "Your not worth a dump in the outhouse and I am so much better than you, go away". Now part of this can indicate the senders back ground as the format follows the old timers "management" of a review of recruit or employee that usually pi$$es of the interviewer. There you have it a millennial will do it a bit different for they missed old style management 101 but it is pretty much the same. Other formats you can ID by dissecting the length of each section. Try it on any post that is suspect and you will see the format seldom changes, thus the Algorithm can indicate a scum bag or maybe just a confused individual. Of course the track record of the continued format will be the deciding factor of who you might want to ignore.
the 1st, yep, fer the most part, the 2nd, negative, ya cannot trust em .. .. lol lol Trust but verify no longer werks .. .. jus sayn
As much as I love many of my SM confreres, it seems at times that as much BS gets spread about as useful and factual information. Many are the times that I have fact checked truth claims, blithely copied and pasted into threads here, only shocked to find that those claims were factually incorrect. Some folk have an inexhaustible capacity for regurgitating garbage from other online sources merely because it agrees with their own confirmation biases....some sources, such as WingNut Daily News can be virtually discounted, even without fact checking.
That's where the verify part comes in. One becomes a pawn without research. Thus my insistence on determining if the mammillary glands are real or fake.
In God we trust, all others are subject to scrutney! Truer words were never spoken says me! With the ease of "adjustment" and the ability to change, add, or simply make shit up and spread it all over, a person has to do all their own research to find what truth may be hidden amongst the crap! It's kind of fun, but mostly a P.I.A.
It's not so much the degree of trust in god that concerns me: As a skeptic of theistic truth claims, its those who claim to be his agents, speaking on his behalf that get my ' credulity / trust antennae on high alert; and my coin purse, billfold, and chequebook secured firmly and deeply in my pockets: Prosperity gospel scammers in particular!
The only one you can trust on the Internet is me! Just send me all your banking and personal info and I will keep it completely safe from all evil doers for a nominal recurring fee. Send inquiries to imanigerianprince [ at ] trustme forreals [ dot ] ru. Truth on the Internet requires checking of many different sources making sure that you have balance in political viewpoints. Then, break down the information and treat it like a Venn diagram. What all information sources have in common might be true. Might be...
