I cook most meals for my family, so when I am home alone, I am reluctant to cook. Sometimes I will. But most times, it is bachelor dinners for me. For example, tonight was pistachios, a banana, yogurt and a cup of tea.
Th wife does all the cooking (great cook) when she's away frozen pizza, hamburger. or a sandwich. I can cook but for 1 person note worth the effort.
My wife does most of the cooking. If she ever lets me in the kitchen I can do okay. Cooking for one, I am (currently) eating frozen dinners or something out of a can. Of course, I only have 2 pots and a worn out frying pan here right now. When the house sells I can get back to eating my wife's cooking.
When AlaskaChick is not local, I have my stock meal.. Big Navel Orange, one peeled Banana, two All Beef HotDawgs (the Costco Brand) and a Tall glass of Cold 2% Milk…
I do most of the cooking...mostly soups, casseroles, pasta bakes....my favourite is sour cream & potato soup. I used to bake cakes , bread, scones and various desserts, but have to watch my carbs / sugar intake now. Edit: I learned from my mother how to make 'sh*t soup'...back in the day when vittles were short before payday would replenish the larder. She would make a stock from a chicken carcass or beef bones left over from an earlier meal, add whatever vegetables hadn't become a suppurating mess in the bottom of the refrigerator, together with whatever herbs she could pick from her kitchen garden, together with whatever offal she hadn't used up earlier in the week. We children thrived to adulthood on what she was able to magick from the most meagre of ingredients.
Any port in a storm - meaning - whatever is in the fridge that will fill the gap. I don't cook - period. I was never any good at it and my wife is excellent so why bother. The most I will cook is heating up a can of chili. Yeah, I'm spoiled rotten..but deserve it! LOL!
I watched this great documentary a while ago on being home alone. So, what I do is to hang an electric charcoal lighter on the inside of the front door doorknob, then order DoorDash. It never works and I burnt my hand a couple of times... I vary between something cold and quick but most of the time I cook something the Mrs. doesn't like but I do. This is usually something with a lot of kick.
My cooking today... Breakfast today was leftover rabbit pie and eggs. Guacamole on sourdough toast tonight. Breakfast tomorrow will be roasted potatoes and eggs. Possibly in tortillas.
A nice apple probably a gala, 3 ounces of summer sausage and a couple ounces of cheese if I need a quick meal. lunch/dinner ... beans and franks .. probably way to much of it. breakfast. couple of hard boiled eggs smashed with a bit of mayo on toast or oatmeal. snack would probably be an apple OR sausage OR cheese
That’s the time to do some barbecue!! Maybe some cheap back or spare ribs. Whatever is leftover is the next day’s lunch.
Tonight was personal pan popcorn for me and the pups. They love popcorn! 662BD58C-86EE-4A13-8939-BDE26355F8E8 by Hanzo posted Jul 28, 2023 at 21:16 223C261B-0DC0-4896-A1D6-9BA7C794D451 by Hanzo posted Jul 28, 2023 at 21:16
Any damn thing you want, especially those things that are bad for you! Just be sure to dispose of any and all traces of the alleged meal and have a good cover story!
Bacon eggs and avocado. Pork chop casserole, Mexican cornbread, beef stroganoff, homemade pizza with spicy crust, avocado salmon salad, BLT sandwiches, homemade raisin bread, while it's still warm from the oven, fried venison with spicy Brussels sprouts and sweet potatoes, should I continue?
