I just purchased a small bunch of 1015 Onions (approx 25). How far apart to plant them in my raised bed?
You can plant them almost touching, BUT that means you'll have to thin them later. Shoot for 4 to 6" for the smaller varieties, a bit more for the biggies to avoid throwaways.
Pretty much as ghrit suggested if you are going the square foot gardening route...there are quite a few online references to raised bed plantings of onions...just make your search engine work for you. An efficient alternative to square foot planting plans is guild plantings with companion plants using permaculture principles. That way the onions will help and be helped by compatible companion plants, making for a more productive crop than as seperate plantings. Nice links Chello... Onions in a raised bed though? Seems like a waste of space. Stick'em in the ground by the sidewalk or anywhere really... U can do better in your bed. G
TX 1015 Onions often grow to the size of a softball or slightly larger. You can thin them when they are almost like good sized leeks if you space at 2 inches. When you thin leave one, remove two, and repeat.
I try to plant some when the daffodils start poking through. Potatoes in about a month. They can survive one frost.
