How great is THIS! I'm in my hospital bed, just getting the numbness to leave my legs and I find the Survival Monkey is back up!

Many thanks to the Monkeys that wished me a speedy recovery on the back-up site, and to Sec and anybody else that figured out the issue with the SM forum. Did unplugging it and plugging it back in help? I know you folks are back here already. I appreciate you all.

Can't ask for much more than that to speed my recovery. Pretty nurses everywhere, excellent Eastern Carolina barbeque and a hip that doesn't move in directions beyond the original design specifications.

I'll let y'all know how it goes in diary style. Don't know if it'll be inspiring or boring, but it helps me to share the jumbled thoughts in my head.

No complaints about "hospital food" here.

Hope you heal up quickly,, how long they keeping you pinned up in the hospital ?? I hope your back to running sprints on the beach before bikini season gets in gear ,,,,

 

Cruel bondage. Tied down with a catheter and inflatable leggings. Had a blue rubber pillow between my legs, under three layers of blankets.
The tray table was pushed down on that. Trapped like a rat!

 

Try to relax while you can.
Get healed quickly.
Quit chasing the nurses (my wife told me to put that in)
Prayers for a smooth rehab sent

 

I have gone for a walk, and seem to be standing level on each leg. Haven't felt this even since about 1981.

Walked 30 yards, using a squeeky walker. Was more of a two step. Move walker, take two steps.
Same support as with a cane. Did try more fluid continuous walking, but it hurt.

Nurses say my level of pain and strength is normal. Me, I want make that walker sing up and down the corridor. Maybe next time.

1-10 scale. Pain is maybe a 5. Was a 4 before surgery. I need no pain meds for this. It's been at 6-7 after work for several months.

 

Catheter removed. I have six hours to pee on my own or they have to do terrible things to me.

Nurses technique was epic.

"Ready?"

"Take a deep brea..."

YANK!

"All done."

 

I've been talking to my nurses about pain management. My choices are Oxycodone or Percocet. I don't like either one, but being a tough guy may not be the best choice.

Nurse said, "If you wait too long to start pain meds they're really hard to manage. You don't sleep, you don't heal."

I made a deal with them. I will take the Oxycodone after I'm able to get up and pee.

This ain't Tombstone and these medicine women care for more than an occasional sick cowboy.

 

What have they done to my legs? Big knee, little knee. Hmmm? Guess what needs replacing next. Can't tell yet if I'm still bow legged as an old Western movie cowboy.

 

That is just mean. But it sure is funny! Like plastic wrap over the tailpipe, or floor mat holding the accelerator at wide open throttle. Kinda makes your heart race!

 

You're just retaining fluids....you REALLY need to pee!

Had a big coffee. Should be ready to go in five minutes.

Yup, coffee worked it's magic. I waited for a commercial, and was back just as the show came back on.

I've taken my pain meds and can now enjoy the end of the movie.

I'm watching Evan Almighty. Wrapped up in a tan blanket with my hair and beard I look a lot like the lead character.

 

That knee doesn't even look real.
Looks like it's out of an old Baby Huey cartoon.
