I quit smoking. I've been taking Chantix for about 8 days and that helps but oh this is tough! In a few hours it'll be one day and then on to tomorrow!

Since I quit drinking long ago I guess the only thing to do now is become a sex-a-holic!

    VERY WISE CHOICE!

The chills, cramps, and cravings will eventually go away. It will be like YOU NEVER STARTED in the first place...eventually. I quit in 2001 and I never looked back.

my brother in law started Chantix 4 months ago. He has had absolutely no cravings. He has started biking 25 miles 4 times a week.....all from a guy who would smoke 1-2 packs a day depending on stress levels.

I still have cravings but Chantix does help. Mostly it's my brain screaming at me to go light one up!

Took me over a week to detox off of nicotine back in '03, I could not afford any type of patches or prescription drugs to ease the withdraw symptoms. Had to do it the old fashioned way, "Cold Turkey".

After all the symptoms of withdraw subsided, I have not wanted a smoke ever since. I do occasionally think about my past habit and I become very nauseous just by thinking about smoking.

The hard part afterwards is putting up with all the smokers and their dirty little habbit because you will be able to smell cigarette smoke with an increased sense of smell, I can go into someone elses house and can smell the "smell" that tells you that smokers live there. It will also be a bit hard on your nose when you stand next to someone that has just had a smoke during their break and comes back to work.

Just stick with it and you will thank yourself for doing so for the rest of your life.

I smoked for 15 years. Got up to 2 packs a day. I was working overseas when they first started banning smoking on airplanes and all the stories about second hand smoke were just starting to make news. I had 12 hour plane rides and my youngest daughter was about a year old. I decided it was time to give it up. It was the best thing I ever did. I look back now and can't believe how hooked I was.
And like RC says your sense of smell comes back and you won't believe how bad old cigarette smoke smells. I could smell the stench from my parents house when I got out of the car in the driveway!

Hang in there V man it will be well worth it in the end.

I used "Smoke Away", the herbal stuff. It'll be 10 years on Dec 10, 2009.

I used a 4 week program called SmokeEnders. It basically weaned you off of them and broke a lot of the phsycological crutches at the same time.

One thing it stressed was the 3 rule. It is documented that a vast majotity of those who start up again do so on the 3rd day, in th 3rd month, or in the 3rd year. I had my closet call and worst longings in the 3rd month after I quit. Don't know why it is but it's true.

April next year will be 15 years. One of my greatest accomplishments in life.

Keep it up Valk, my step dad died last year from lung and brain cancer. You can make it through this, besides we need you around to arm the populace once we run out of bullets. You can do it bud, stay strong.
