Was comparing two of my favorite rifles the other evening while chatting with RH and found this to share:

Gotta love the carbine... used to use one as a raid gun.... best weapon for urban use in my opinion... good to 100 yards with over 600 foot pounds of knockdown... dosen't over penetrate like a ar and better power & range than a mp-5 9mm... easier to reload as well...

i have a couple of High Point 9mm carbines and I really like them. i don't know much about them but they shoot straight and they didn't cost much.

I had a Winchester M1 Carbine when I was in high school. Probably need to add that to the "Guns I Wish I'd Never Sold" thread.

If Obama ends up allowing the South Korean M1s and M1 Carbines back into the states, we may have plenty more for another generation to enjoy.

Here are a couple of my favorite carbines. The top is your standard, boring MP5A2. The bottom one has some history to it. It's a Swedish Model 1864-68-85 Artillery carbine (rolling block). It's chambered in 12.7x44R (close to a .50-70), and was originally issued to a Swedish bridge laying (Engineers) battalion. Just a few short years ago.

It's neat to fire - you hear the round go off, then hear a THUMP as the heavy bullet smacks into the backstop.

Still have my 30 cal, dies, and lots of brass. It used to be my deer hunter(very briefly) and truck gun(long time). Great weapon, agile, accurate, easy to load, and hard hitting. Have gone to an SKS "M" style for a truck gun. Harder hitting and longer range. Keep a "carbine" length 742 close by at home in '06.

I've got two M1 carbines as part of my defensive set up. I use my two M38 Swedish Mausers for the long stuff, 2 SKS's for the short to intermediate ranges, the M1's for the short ranges backed up by 12 guage shotties and handguns. At their effective range their extremely easy to handle for just about anybody.
