Bug Out Trailer?

BUg out trailers?

I saw a friends teardrop trailer the other day and it started me thinking... would a teardrop trailer make a good bug out option if you needed to leave a bug-in location?

they can be custom made fairly inexpensively using marine grade plywood and trailer frames from harbor freight with free pland from the internet...

It could with some modification provide a means of support for 2 adults for 90 days or more and be pulled by most full size vehicles...

Any thoughts or links to folks who have tried this?

The best concept I have found...working on one with the family as a "just in case" we have to bug out to a safer spot.

 

What sort of costs would be required to build one of these and what size vehicle?

 

7 foot wide by 21 foot "low boy" stake bed. 3/4" Ply, 2x4 studs, hardware etc. Pricing would vary according to what materials you have on hand, if you had a trailer, etc. Time is the biggest investment for this project IMO.

 

Or, if you have an LLC, buy all the equipment/materials through the LLC, and denote it as being used for the business. Then dissolve the LLC, "sell" the assets to a "individual" (Some farmer wanted a trailer for use on his farm...said his name was Jack Robinson) who paid cash (create a receipt), and stash the trailer elsewhere (like at your B.O.L.). When TSHTF, police officers will NOT be looking for a trailer with an expired tag/registration.

I am feeling properly paranoid.

Teardrops are nice for 1 or 2 people (3 if you are REAL friendly). For a family of 5+, not so good.

 

WD did say two people..... they'd best be real 'close' though.

I have a friend in Florida trying to start a business selling them. He wants me to come out and help.
You want to use 2-3 " square tubing, and big wheels go over obstacles better. Pull up survival trailers on You Tube. there is one that has a pull out tent system on it.

 

Doc most of the teardrop trailers could be pulled by a small truck or suv. something like a ford ranger or s-10. they are very minimalist types of trailers. a bed and kitchen thats it but if you can handle that type of roughing it they are ok. price wise i think I saw one for about 6 grand.

 

You can't carry much supplies in a small trailer. You will probably not last long

Where will you go? Have a logical plan. Private property owners are not going to be very friendly to squatters. Squatting on public land near private property won't do you much better. I have thought this out because I own such land

Now if you have a buddy/group you can retreat to join, and if you can stow supplies there in advance, why not leave the trailer there (if that's OK) as a place to sleep when you get there? Also remember to store propane for it

 

With the economy on the verge of total collapse and massive unemployment they are going a lot cheaper in some areas. Many "toys" are in the "buyers market" zone right now

My favorite medium trailers are Warrior Trailers. Ramp that allows you to move a vehicle in and out easily, plus full living quarters. Put your small 4 x 4 and or enduros in there for the trip, then when you get there move them outside
