I was just wondering, it this a military thing or just some trendy new gimmick.

The military switched over to Molle years ago. The old ALICE style kit is considered garbage.

I have two MOLLE packs and they are extremely versatile. Plus it reinforces the pack.

With the old ALICE packs you toss stuff in, you sort through to find that item you need most likely at the bottom of your pack. To me it was just an olive drab backpack with metal clips to hold your gear on, and those clips were likely to get bent and unusable.

The MOLLE (MOdular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment) gives easier access to your gear because of the versatility of pouches that you can get for it. Also it uses a cloth type weaving method with a snap button to secure itself to your body armor, tactical vest, rucksack or assault pack.

Will take the MOLLE over the ALICE any day. Then that's just me and my random thoughts on things.

An "Alice" what? And who is this "MOLE" guy anyways?

But works fine for those on a budget or trying to outfit a MAG , have extra kit around for those that dont .

    And we still do!

I can only think of 1 or 2 that actually use them ;)

MOLLE is better- no more issues with ALICE clips opening up and falling off. No more metal rattle or tie-down SOPs.

MOLLE does come in a bit heavier for the extra webbing. Worth it IMHO.
