I lost my job a few weeks back and started doing some contract work. Well the contract work was coming to a close (4 weeks away at the time) and the only jobs I could find that weren't 1.5-2 hours away (and they wanted on site every day.. which for a software dev is just stupid) were local start ups wanting to pay $15-$20/hr. Now I would have taken those if I had to, but lucky enough for me, I found a job. It sort of fell into my lap and it's 10 mins from my house.. so bonus for not having to burn a lot of gas to get to work.

    Personal SHTF avoided.. for now.

I'll be able to comfortably resume prepping procedures in 30 days.

Oh, say hello to my new house monitor, Caesar Maximus....

I worked from home for 4 years, but now i have to go into the office every day for the first 6 months. So I got a horse to guard the house.. pure bread great dane. Entering my house without me or any member of my family being around will soon be a bad idea. There's nothing like staring at a 200lb dog and wondering wtf you were thinking when you tried to b&e into my house. Not the first dog I've trained..won't be the last. But damn the fool that tries to come in without the password and unless he can whistle exactly like me.. he's going to have a bad, bad, bad rest of his life ;)

You're going to need a second job to feed that monster. (Unless you can find volunteers to b&e.)

Congrats on the shortest job search I've heard of in years.

yeah, he'll be pricey, but I think he'll be worth it. If there's one thing I've learned... you get what you pay for. If I paid 100.00 for a poodle.. well, you get my point. I would have easily dropped 400.00 on a dobie pup to raise, but the wife is against dobies for some reason. At any rate, the choice was two fold: 1 for the house and 2 for my son who is on the extreme lighter side of the autism spectrum. I consider this part of "Securing the homestead prepping".

As for the job search.. I don't know what to tell ya.. I connect with a lot of people and we help each other out. But like the last 2 jobs I had.. it just landed in my lap.

Congrats on the Job! Love the new home security system. We too are looking for a 4 legged security system. Wife wants Rotties. w00t unfortunately she wants 3 (gettem, sickem and ouch). We are definitely going to need some B&E chew toys to keep the food bill down (bite and eat) if it comes to fruition.

Hope the job turns out to be exactly what you need!

Thanks for the well wishes and compliments on the security system. I'm looking forward to kicking butt at this new job since I will be the one who kicks off the owners' adventure into owning a software company. :)

I can sympathize I'm not out of work but the contract I was working under is over. The powers that be can't decide where they would like me to go. So far the choices are louisiana or nw Alabama if I actually get a choice I want Alabama because I don't feel like Louisiana would be a good place shoul SHTF

    Obama Economy Reality

So true: "No job" in this Obama Economy is a SHTF situation.

    Congratulations on avoiding that scenario!

Regarding your security system, my son has a Great Dane, also. His appetite is bigger than he is. In order to keep his weight down to a reasonable level, we cut his food to 2 cups twice a day PLUS 3-4 good sized carrots--cut up. He loves the sweetness and the crunch of the carrots and it fills his belly with enough mass to keep him from feeling hungry.

Good luck with the new gig and enjoy working with your security system!

Appetite.. you aren't kidding. My pup is 40 lbs at 11 wks and he is trim. I feed him 4 cups per day of meat only protein food. No grains. Plus some treats as I train him. 2 Cups at 7am, 1 cup at 12ish and 1 cup at 5ish. All he does is want to eat and sleep. Freaking dog slept for 3 hours at a clip today for about a total of 9 hours during the day + his 8 hours of sleep the night before. I had to go read about Danes a bit more to find out if this was normal. Apparently it's quite normal as they are growing; I just didn't expect him to be sleeping this much. He gets up, plays for a bit, we go out side for 15, he does his deal-e-o and then *boom*.. snorefest. lol

I just want to cuddle with that puppy! He's freaking adorable!

The local gun store I frequent has 3 HUGE brown lab (maybe danes) mixed dogs, I mean ENORMOUS. As soon as I go inside, I just roll to the floor and start playing with them. Of course, the owner first thought I was retarded, but that's okay. He soon realized he was wrong. I'm actually quite stupid. No, the dogs are friendly, thankfully. They can be triggered, though. Have to be careful. One alpha male -don't get him too excited. ;)
