If the mod's move it to medical section that ok i just trying to get some info out there on this condition people have

I have Rheumatiod Artritis in my hand's & back & neck & shoulder & knee's & ankles and somedays are not really bad and some days are like heck it going to be a bad day ..

The doctor basically said because of all the year's of training and bumps and other falls i have taken dureing my many years of outdoor liveing & working i have done in the military & my line of work has taken it toll on my body

The problem with the RA in right hand thumb cause it to not be able to move it up or down without alot of pain in the area and the reason behind the socalled custom glock post ..So you might want to look at diff thing's to use on the areas that cause you problems plus how you handle you self defense weapon also ..

Knowing that i have this problem it means for me there is no long walk's in the wood's when it dark and cold inless i'm beening chased or i been bunt out of my place ..

Remember to take care of the basic medical health issuse before they become bigger health issuse down the line and you do not have a doctor around to treat you ..I do have some homemade all natural stuff i use when it does act up and it work's to a point but to a point how long will this stuff work and have i stocked up on enough of the product to make it last for a few year's

I am realizing that my body can't take the same punishment that is used to. I even hurt myself jumping into a pool a while back. I keep getting more aches and pains. So I will take your advise to heart.

    I feel your pain. Literally.

About three weeks ago now, at the end of a day on the (not square) range I took a shower. Had to, even my dogs didn't want to play with me. [dunno]

Anyway, stepped one leg out of the tub after my shower and my back went " !! POP !! " I've never been stabbed in the spine with a red hot knife, but this was EXACTLY what I perceive it would feel like.

Dropped me like a hot rock. Knees just simply buckled. Fortunately being one leg in and one out of the tub, I landed on my knee on the side of it rather than going all the way to the floor.

About 30 years ago I broke my back, a compression fracture in L1, and occasionally ever since I get 'catches' that leave me sore for a day or two, but never anything like this AND it lasted. I lived with it a full week - unable to stand up, sit down, lay down, sit up, sit back - just plain miserable.

So . . . I finally broke down and went to the doctor - don't get me started on doctors. I've been to ONE in the last 25 years and that was against my will. After a few hundred bucks worth of x-rays, he tells me that I have arthritis and that I'd better get used to the pain.

Of course I asked him how the POP had anything to do with the arthritis, and he shrugged his shoulders and said: "sometimes it is just that way."

If you ask me it really shouldn't be against the rules to shoot folks like that. [beat]

Getting old SUX. There just ain't no other way to say it.

Just like my grandfather taught me the importance of brushing and flossing EVERY DAY. That was the first day he had dentures...

    To Opinionated:

Have you seen a Chiropractor? My mom went to her doctor with very much the same symptoms as yours, and he told her very much what your doctor told you - "It's arthritis, get used to it." When she tried to tell him that she knew what arthritis pain felt like, and this wasn't it; he refused to discuss it. He was right, and that's all there was to it.

After taking the prescribed pain pills for a couple of months with no relief, she visited a Chiropractor. After about nine weeks of treatments, she was pain free, and her life was pretty much back to what it was before the back problem.

When she sees her medical doctor these days, he always asks how her arthritis is, and she smiles and tells him it is fine now.

Her experience has definitely made me a believer in Chiropractic care. If you haven't seen one, you might think about it.

It was december of 1976 when I was first diagnosed with RA. My 1st born was only 4 months old and I couldn't hold her. The state took away my drivers license ( thanks Doc!) and made my life a real nightmare. Since then, I've recovered. Can't say how, or why, or what happened...I was just very "lucky". Some years I get a bout of it for around 2 months...it's a bear!
For some weird reason, my body fights the RA and eats the deposits and nodes formed in my body. They can't determine why that is. Like I said, I am very luck is all!
The elbows, wrists, and thumbs, all hurt like fire and they swell and won't bend without excrutiating pain. At times I'd wake up screaming, as it felt as if somone was breaking my forearms in two! The pain come and goes in waves...Then for no rhyme or reason at all, it just goes away. For those that have this nightmare full time or more than just a few minutes, I feel for you! It is a living hell.
Not sure about the young part, I didn't really have any severe injuries until I got older ( past 45). I was careful no broken bones or car wrecks or motorcycle accidents. When I got older, I'd had a couple of falls that took me down. But the body seems to be able to heal most of itself, most of the time. The tough part is ignoring the pain! Drugs don't seem to help much, but to put off the pain only temporarily.

RA is an inflammatory form of arthritis that is an autoimmune disorder. Basically, your immune system is attacking your joints, so instead of your hands hurting, all your joints are getting nailed.

Stop eating acidic foods in excess, like red meat and dairy. Also avoid caffeine, citrus fruits, paprika, salt, tobaco, and sugar in general.

Take a multivitamin with no iron, and supplement your vit E. Try a calcium, magnesium, boron, and strontium supplement, these will help repair the bones your RA has destroyed. Take a natural protein enzyme that is anti-inflammatory, like Bromelain or Pancreatin, or preferably OPC-3(if you've got the cash). Fish oils, or any Omega-3 supplement will help manage the pain and inflamation. Try taking alfalfa, it works for some.

I stocked up on all the stuff I need for any conditions I have, or loved ones have.

Do you have a recommendation on a fish oil?

I wrote something up last night. I guess I didn't post it.

Any reputable brand will do. I carry Carlson's and Barlean's. Try to get a liquid, not a gel cap, but gel caps are better than nothing. You can also get EFAs(essential fatty acids) from flax, chia, eating fish, etc.

Something I forgot to mention. Ionized/Alkaline water might offer a higher quality of life, but this wouldn't be available during a disaster, and it's not very available right now either, unless you are in Japan. It might lower your standard of life if you hate drinking water, or have bladder problems, as you need to drink a lot of it, up to a gallon a day. This water helps to flush acidic toxins from the body, including joints, and helps to protect you from oxidative damage. We are all chronically dehydrated, so we'd all benefit from drinking more water.

Several yrs ago(@25) a doctor in NY had RA so bad that he had to retire. He started an elimination diet and to his great surprise when he stopped eating the "night shades" his RA disappeared. He went back into his practice, got a gub grant, recruited about a thousand RA patients and started them on the eliminations also. About 10% were totally healed, some much better, some slightly better, and the rest not affected. Try eliminating potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant (and one more) from your diets and see if it helps. Cannot cost you anything and you may be one of the blessed ones to be totally healed. The article was in the Reader's Digest so you may be able to get it up. Hope it helps and even if not you are not out anything. Cannot hurt to investigate it.

Like a friend of mine said one time.If I'd known I was gonna live this long I would have taken better care of myself. If I didnt hurt somewhere I would know something was bad wrong.
