I'd suggest that one of the things that will stop you dead in your tracks after TSHTF is ....

    Your teeth.

Silly as it may sound, Get them choppers squared away.

An abscess will drop you as good a bullet if not taken care of.

I saw some one suggested getting lasik surgery to preclude the need for glasses.

What else should we be taking care of?

How about one of those hearing aids that is used for hunting? It would help in hunting and in the event of hear lose.

    I don't think I could handle a DIY

circumscision or vasectomy post SHTF so I think I'd get them done pre TETWAWKI too! : O

Haemeroidectomies would have to be on that list too....supplies of haemeroid cream aren't going to last for ever when civilisation goes down the chute......I mean...I want to be the badass in my neighbourood....not be the one with a badass in my neighbourhood : O

"Feminine pads" for the ladies. Great for bullet wounds in an emergency too.

I would very much like to get the use of my hands back. Its hard to shoot my M1 with only two thumbs and a fore finger. I used to do tons of stuff. But when the SHTF they can have my gun when they pry it out from my cold dead thumb and fore finger!

Feet! Bunyons, in-grown nails. Hard to move when you're in pain.

Be sure and buy plenty of moleskin. Our skin isn't as tough as it could be (in general).

And buy a few big tubs of Vaseline. Chaffing, firestarter, chapped lips, moisturizer.

My wife and I both just had Lasik done. I went from 20/400 to 20/15. We saved and categorized this as a prep.

I HIGHLY recommend it. It might be one of the most important preps you can make if you have bad vision. The new technology called Wavefront is used now by the US militaries and NY State Trooper system. It allows for significantly better night vision than regular Lasik. It is a bit more expensive but totally worth it.

You are as good as dead in a SHTF scenario if you have poor eyesight. I take that back...Chuck Norris could survive and thrive blind. :)

Eye Surgey scares me even without SHTF. What if 20 years from now it causes me to go Blind!!! I just don't think they've done enough Long Term Testing. Cuz theres few things on earth that can terrify the shyt outta me. The thought of going blind is one of them. :(

I have serious dental problems, and can't go to the dentist... I got lost in my mission to take care of my oral health, but this works so far... Listerine Antiseptic. the 24 hour protection bottle, and use it every 12 hours with a good teeth brushing. My teeth are horribly important to me and I can't even talk without a hand in front of my face now. But that's the best I can offer.

I have had 3 abcesses taken care of at the dentist's office. You are absolutely correct, an abcess will kill you if left untreated.

As for what else to take care of: I have long been a skeptic of getting crowns. However, I just got one about 6 weeks ago and it has made a very positive impact on the health and the general sense of well-being in my mouth. To expand upon this, just a bit, I have noted that both my gums and the teeth on either side of my new crown appear to be doing much better.

FYI, I inherited really bad gums. Anything that enhances the health of my mouth definitely grabs my attention--because this is the first dental work that I have had done which appears to have rolled back time and actually improved the health of my mouth, gums and teeth.

Crowns are expensive, but they beat having gaps in your mouth that lead to leaning (instead of upright) teeth and deteriorating gums.

Also grab a couple bottles of oil of cloves, if you do have something to happen and you get a tooth ache the oil of cloves will numb it for a few hours. you can also buy the dental cement to fill the tooth. If you don't have a tube of dental cement caning wax can be warmed in you hand and molded around the tooth to keep air out which will aid with the pain.I keep them all in my Med box

My teeth are awful, and we have no dentist. What I've been doing that actually works, is to A. brush my teeth properly, and use the Listerine mouthwash that scalds your mouth, but cleans everything to death.

I got smacked in the face by one of my dogs and lost a middle lower tooth, and there is not much to do about it, but tooth aches are the WORST. The mouthwash takes care of that.

A circomscision is not a medical need so why would you bother post SHTF? A vasectomy is a very easy thing to do. I have assisted in several of them when I was a Navy Corpsman. Granted for the next few days your not going to be real comfortable but not live ending if done by anyone who has 1/2 an idea on how to do it. Yea if you want it get it done now. But it's not something I would run out and get done if I ever thought I wanted more childeren. I'm past the age where I want more little ones running around and have already made sure that won't happen.
